Found that I had to reinstall the media server's system  to get AFP working.

Dell desktop.

Normally I scrap them because they're ancient. This one is fairly nice and fixable = gas money :icequeen:.

But people....FFS :GA:, destroy/remove your hard drive or at the very least delete your personal info before you curb it.  :zombiefuck:  Got it cleaned out already, now to whip it back into shape.  :squiddy:

When I scrap a computer I make sure the HD is destroyed or not included.

I'm having my old busted computer hauled away, how do I destroy the HD?  :orly:

Remove it from the casing and put a hammer to it. Or just open it with a screwdriver and see what's inside and take it all apart. A useful learning experience. ;D

Olive? I love olives.

Mmmmm, yes, one can of black olives and one can of green.
I have heard it said about olives that you have a number of choices; you can get black olives or you can get green olives or you can get stuffed. :zoinks:

I would take the opportunity to take the hard drive apart to see what it is made of, etc.

:lol1:    Love the olive pun!  Good old Brit slang!

But whereabouts is the HD?  I am really dumb about these things.  :autism:

Hard drives are generally a small metal box. It is connected to the motherboard (which is the biggest electronic board) by a ribbon cable and also to the power supply by a power plug with 4 wires. Here is what one looks like:

Like odeon said... hammer works.

Turn it over and hit it hard a few times on the center hub until it sort of bends in, which is usually the quickest way to make it unreadable.

...or take it all apart. There's usually 2 really strong neodymium magnets inside. :autism:  Taking just the bottom board off is not enough though, as the board can always be replaced with one from a similar drive making it functional again.

I take them apart...the bottom boards have scrap value and go in a bin with the other boards & ram from the computer, magnets have some resale value in lots, hd case is normally aluminum and goes with the aluminum.
