It seems like a LOT of people on the spectrum react badly to SSRIs.

Interesting how different our experiences seem to be.

Brain chemistry is interesting, and how differently people respond to these meds proves just how little we understand how it works.

Exactly? I couldn't put a precise figure on it, but a great many of those I know do react really badly to SSRIs, and I see a lot of posts on various autie/aspie forums that recount nasty experiences with them.

1 Aspririn - Heart health
2 Benadryl - Sleep
2 40 mg Celexa - Depression
1 Flexaril - Muscle relaxant
1 Meloxicam - Arthritis pain
10 mg Melatonin - Sleep

and go to bed.  You notice I've covered the alphabet from A - Z.

Many of the nasty experiences happen when people stop using them, I believe. I went cold turkey, a couple of years ago, and it was not a pleasant experience.

:indeed:

I'm glad to visit a health-clinic that is very observant and careful in and when prescribing meds. For people on the spectrum, the reactions seem to be more often not standard, on the medication. They closely monitor that. Not all unexpected side-effects are bad btw. But, for some, finding the right medication, if it is there, can take a while.
A friend of mine went through two bad experiences with anti-depressants, before he found one that finally made the depression disappear. So, for him, some SSRI's really suck, where the last one is a miracle for him.

I meant reactions immediately on starting one of the SSRIs, not coming off them. That is known to be a pretty fucking rough experience.

Just took my morning oxy shot, and a quinine tablet for the muscle spasm in my leg, just about to take my morning dose of chlormethiazole and clonidine also, and some indomethacin later.

I decided to slightly more than double the dose of chlormethiazole though, as when I went to get it out of the bottle I found I had a whole bunch of capsules left, I thought I only had three, but instead there was a decent sized handful still left.

Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

I get a moderately pleasant reaction on starting them, but it only lasts a day or two.  Weeks/months later, the side effects start becoming significant.
