it was actually the espresso part of the machine.  i like my coffee with a kick to it.

I don't own an espresso machine, but for "regular" coffee, that thing is great. It was very common in Sweden and Denmark in the 1960s and -70s and you can still buy them for $50-60.  8)

It's made of real Pyrex glass, so I've used the bottom part to boil the water out of battery acid to make it more concentrated. You can only buy concentrated sulfuric acid with a cowardly license here, of course, but you can boil the water out of  37% battery acid, so it becomes concentrated to 98%.  8)
