Temple Grandin has made the most of her life. She is successful, she has written several widely read books, and IMO she represents the spectrum well.

I don't think there can be anyone found to represent 'us' completely. We are very diverse. And that will require many people to represent us.
Ne'eman and Grandin, I settle for that, there will be others. Hadron will need a more militant person to represent him. Never has there been a big cause with only one representative. One representative would creep me out. We are so diverse.

Grandin is special anyway, with her love for cows. I laughed, reading a book of her after I had my DX. Some of the things she told about her and cows were what my parents told during the diagnostical process about me and cows in childhood. She made a job out of her obsession, I let it slip into a sweet memory. Think she did great.

Oh!!!!  I don't even know who that is.  Looks like a woman gardener I used to work for.  But, she loses any credibility for appearing in Plank's video.  I guess she doesn't know the whole score, a hugging machine is a good invention, for someone who's given up on life.  If I resort to getting one of those, i'll be throwing myself off a building soon after lol.

Yes, that could be said of many. The question is whether on not they are doing good things. In practise, Autism Speaks is laying a lot of groundwork for good thinks, detestable though its actual aims maybe. Planck et al send us backwards, their only real progress is sinking our self respect even further.

I don't think society at large sees it that way. They don't see some of the internal politics, all they see is a really cool looking guy who runs a very prominent support site, and is helping to spread autism awareness.

The bottom line is the effect that it has on us, that really should be the ultimate measure. The work of Autism Speaks makes us a lot more likely to have a chance at getting jobs, education and fundementally being included in society. Planck, Grandin, Ne'eman and so on do not further our cause, all they do is undermine our self respect.

Most big causes have a small handful of effective spokespeople and actually employ people who get things done for their consituents, rather than just represent them. None of the current representatives with AS are doing anything about our real needs, nor building legitimate organisations that enable us to help ourselves.

Nor do I think we are as diverse as you are making out, especially not in terms of our needs. Fundementally, Autism itself isn't a diverse condition, its the people on the spectrum who are diverse, thus we really have a diverse set of people with a concrete cause. Unfortunately our current representatives are doing the opposite and thus setting us back in getting things done. In doing so, they are robbing many of us of the opportunities and inclusion that we deserve and are quite frankly entitled to.
