Occasionally my Show unread posts since last visit option will clear out all posts when I return to it while checking my unread posts.  I went from 3 pages of unread posts to none just one click of the mouse. 

Does this have anything to do with the day starting over in a different time zone for the main computer thingie or your backing up the site or ????

No, neither of those things should affect your unread posts list. Have you deleted your cache and the I2 session cookie after this started happening?

This could have something to do with the other sessions weirdness people have reported. Maybe it's time to wipe the sessions db table. :-\

I wouldn't know where to find them.  I don't know what a cache is and the only cookies that I know about are in my kitchen, hidden from my husband.  Seriously.

Do you use IE? If so, at the top click tools, then internet options. On the general tab check the box for delete browsing history on exit. Or don't check it; you can use the same area to do it manually when you feel like it, if you prefer.
