Thanks for the cornbread recipe, Callaway. Wonder if there's a substitute ingredient for veg. shortening though. Lard maybe? Real butter?

Teach yourself, trial and error, to make a nice corn bun/bread, luut. You love the ones you buy nowadays and think, after finding the right recipe (and maybe add some extra ingredients you like/trying to bake one a couple of times), this is actually a good idea.

Kneading the dough is a good exercise for your arm muscles also. :zoinks:

Kneading dough is a good way to get rid of stress too.

I should take up baking bread again. I loved doing that, and playing with time to rise, by the amount of yeast used. If I had to go somewhere for a long time, I'd use a very small amount of yeast, so that the first time rising took a long time. Was fun to play with that.
Great way to keep girls on edge busy with too.

Really should take up baking bread again.

Maybe have filled bread for dinner tonight, that would be nice.
I can do upside down chocolate moo things!

Lard would work.  If you used butter, it would taste good but the cornbread might stick unless the cast iron skillet was really well seasoned.  I think that vegetable oil would also work if the cast iron skillet is well-seasoned.

Can I just add that I think it's a brilliant movie?

You certainly can!  I've never seen it but I will take your word for it.

You should make it your mission in life to see it.

Should I be prepared to commit felonies while on this mission?  :orly:

Yes. Or you could just buy it on DVD.

This is one of the times when I "feel" my age because I saw Taxi Driver when it first came out.

I had to wait for a rerun a year or two later, I think.
