My 850Z easily pics up IR light from the LEDs of remote controls.

My Pentax Optio S50 isn't anywhere near as sensitive to IR, and it displays IR as a nasty magneta colour.  This pic is of the same remote control, as seen by the Optio.

Those are cool pictures Peter.  :)  Does your camera have an IR setting?  Or is it just weird like that? 

I'm trying to think of things that put out a bunch of IR.

It doesn't have any IR setting; I was just using it normally in low light level conditions where the IR wouldn't be drowned out by the visible light.  Most digital cameras have a filter in them to block IR, so maybe this one doesn't, or it has a weak filter.

More pics.  The first is of my street, taken from my bedroom window.  After that are pics of the sky from my garden.  I mounted my camera on a tripod and played around with the exposure and aperture settings to get various results.  I think I got pics of Venus and Mars, but it could have been Jupiter or Mercury or something else for all I know.
