i remember how naive my wife and i once were.

we were going to become a couple who never yelled at their children.  how stupid we acted when we had two girls 20 months apart.
jesus christ the fighting is constant, and my voice is always hoarse.  its really to the point that i think they fight just to get a rise out of my.

what was the inconsequential subect that your kiddos were fighting about today?
Misunderstood.

I forget. our daughter came out of school sulky, the eldest is a big baby, and the little one likes to attack the others and us, he's a real anklebiter.  ::)

Dunc i have noticed that you are an extremely intelligent and witty man.  and that you have alot of skills.
here is my question:

Are you waiting for life to hit you over the head with realization or do you have a plan?
Misunderstood.

I'm biding my time, and take my chances to do something worth doing as I get them. My last 'plan' got fucked up by reality intervening, so I tend to take stuff as it comes now and not worry about the big picture too much.  I've heard it said that life is what happens while you are waiting for something else - I think there's some truth in that.

it seems to change a bit when you have kiddos.

the added responsibilities and all.  i tend to agree with your philosophy with an open mind and  eyes wide open.  since, you never know. ;)

it just seems so hard to find a path and stick with it.  the bane of my existence seems to be getting passed the 90 percent completed threshhold.  i am always fascinated by new things and toss myself into them completely and then i lose interest and move on to something else.

why do you suppose that people get all excited about things and completely involve themselves stop before completion?

do you think that it has to do with self doubt?

do you think that people purposefully sabatoge their own success?
Misunderstood.

In our cases I think it has more to do with ADHD and a need for new stimulation - for me, its not so much that I give up as wanting something new to do - or getting seriously sidetracked. In my defence I usually go back and finish what I was doing eventually - the trick to making it work is that if its an ongoing thing trying to make sure there are others with a balance of personalities involved.

for some people, sure. fear of falling holds a lot of people back.

no, certainly not on a conscious level. It depends how you define success also IMO.

i am not sure that i really know what i mean.

its just that lately i have been feeling all philosophical about life.  i have been wondering (for the 100th time) about purpose.

i wonder if i have really done anything good.  if my goals are worthwhile or even realistic.  and i am extremely humbled by the fact if i have done more harm in life than i have done good.  actually writing down your life (on these forums) and having people question you (ascan as an extreme example) really makes me wonder.  what are my motives, are my actions supportive of my thoughts.
wtf to it all, and why?

sorry dunc.  but i started down this road in your wifes ask away thread also.  i hope i'm not  being a complete downer.
Misunderstood.

meh. you do realise that letting cunts like ascan get to you and beating yourself up over every mistake you might have made is deeply fucking emo, right?

other than that, self-reflection is A Good Thing In The End. If you learn from what you have done wrong its easier to avoid in future [allegedly], and you gain an understanding of what has worked.

Dr. Duncvis's advice as armchair psychologist is to sit down with a blank page and put down what you want from life - your goals, what you value, what changes you would like to effect. from that you have a measure to evaluate your past actions, and formulate a strategy for the future.

good luck with it, and no more emo bullshit, ta.  :police:
