the battery is for charging up by solar power, silly.  then it holds the charge for you to use as and when.

Yes, I know that, but it's still vaguely disappointing.

I went to see Mark Kozelek last night. I bought a T-Shirt and CD: I'm his biggest fan.

I never asked him.

He was in Red House Painters, now his band is called Sun Kil Moon.
I recommend their latest album called "April" - it's beautiful.

christ, you are so right - it's fucking gorgeous!!  i've logeed on especially to say so - i can see me being completely addicted to this album - "lucky man" is almost tear-worthy.  can just imagine playing it, late at night, glass of wine, etc., and then shagging someone stupid.  (possibly, just me, but that's the image it conjures up).

:plus: for introducing mark wotsit into my consciousness.

I just downloaded this album a few days ago myself.  Finally got a chance to listen to it this morning.  Quite beautiful, indeed.

Didn't conjure up a shagging image for me.  Made me want to go driving around to my old neighborhood at 2am, with Marlboro Reds and a big old Diet Coke, park my car across from the house where I used to live, and just sit there and listen.

Maybe I'll do this some night.

Anyway, it's wonderful.  :)
hats off to the man on top of the world
come crawl up here baby, and we can watch this damn thing turn

Aside from the flash drives, I sprang for the entire, Page mastered, Led Zeppelin collection.

I've only heard the first disk, but I am surprised at the quality. I know that the early CD releases, (pre- Japanese re-mastering) used compressed second generation tapes to digitize. The rumor is that the original rough-mixed multi-track masters were used to create this set. I can tell you for sure that the tracks I have heard have a different sound than any of my other CD versions.

The thing that I notice right away is that that Bonham kick sounds better than ever on any CD ( almost analog!) and Page's old feud with JPJ has apparently been set aside in favor of re-creating the old ZEP for the fans! The bass kick ass, TOO, in other words. Clean, deep and up-front.

I hear none of the really trashy over- compressed digi-noise which ruined ALL the previous CDs. There is actually some dynamics to be felt.

(remember, when these came out on LP, even the average person's analog rig was capable of far superior fidelity and subtle nuances, compared to the garbage that ninety percent of the public listen through these days.)

I can't wait to get a chance to hear the rest of this collection with my "good stuff."
