Oh, and I bought a book today: "Amsterdam" by Ian McEwan. I have an unhealthy fascination for his writing.

I'm still trying to work out why this would be an unhealthy fascination.

cos he'll get me banging on about how mcewan's literary masturbation is self-congratulatory, pretentious claptrap.

:D

he is a jolly good writer, sadly.

Again.

"Sadly," you say. I have been so against fictional works in the last year, that I'm stupid, now.  Do I   want to read him or not?

The end result of life's daily pain and suffering, trials and failures, tears and laughter, readings and listenings is an accumulation of wisdom in its purest form.

Yes, I think you should. He is an exceptionally good writer, one of the best. Try "Enduring Love" first. Or one of his early ones, like "The Comfort of Strangers". Or the short stories he started out with. Then, when you know what you think, read "Saturday".

had to buy a new kettle on ebay.  broke the whistle on my old one last night, and can't find where to get a replacement whistle.  the kettle is old and knackered, but i fucking hate not being able to replace parts, cos it's still functional.  fucking consumer society.

now all i have to do is replace my shower, washing machine and vacuum cleaner.  it never rains...

I had visitors staying for a few weeks. They called me an hour from arriving and said "Be there soon put a cuppa on for us"
I replied "Yeah, no worries. See ya then."

I only then realised. I do not drink tea or coffee and did not own a kettle.
I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

Censoring/banning/restricting/moderating myself, Calanadale & Scrapheap were all not his finest moments.

I have always tried to be "green" (fucking miserable buzzword of the moment!) but it has become ever more difficult.
