Bought a new leather jacket to replace an old one with a hole in it.

My zipper broke during the last storm. Fugly storm!
I am still looking for a light leather jacket, like the one that gave up.

(BTW, taking it to a local tailor, I found that replacing the zipper costs more than the jacket cost me in the first place. Really? yeah!)

If it's a jacket you like, it might be worth it anyway.

That is exactly why I still have it. I do like it. It IS leather!  Fixing old leather makes more sense than killing again just for a new jacket.

:plus: for thinking of the original owner :)

I have a leather jacket. it's a leather parka :). i was looking for something really,  really  warm for the Winter, and i went everwhere looking for a proper parka, but parkas had becomme fashionable, so they were all fashion tat that would fall to bits in five minutes, besides having the pockets in the wrong places or fake pockets and other outrages. I'd actually settled for one of those, the previous year and literally wore it to rags before the winter was halfway done.

But this year, i'd got a benefits backpayent and i was bloody determined to get a decent coat this year. It was number one priority.  i spotted this one in a leather specialist shop. It was not only a proper parka, well made with a thick fleece lining, it was a man's extra large parka, with room for several layers of jumpers underneath, besides myself.   It was love at first sight. And it  was in their sale too, which meant that my last £200 was enough to buy it. My biggest ever outlay on an item of clothing.

The only problem was the zip. I instantly spotted that it didn't have the proper thick chunky zip that any coat of mine must have, or else i get it stuck, get it warped and evventually mangle it, sometimes with self trapped inside garment. (Had to cut myself out of a jacket once) So I asked if they could change the zip, and they did, at a fraction of the cost of the jacket.

That was a few years ago, and it's still pretty much good as new, despite being worn near-constantly in half-cold weather.  I'm impressed with my own good sense in investing that money in something that turns out to be bargain (considering usage)  compared with other coats I've had.   :)  And I'm soooo glad I had that money at the right time.

Thank you.

Odeon's words fell alongside my own thoughts.  I have just hesitated to get it fixed because of the initial cost, but the true cost is greater than any outlay of cash.

I intend to take it back to our tailor and have her put in a zipper that will last  lifetime.

The hole in my old jacket had grown too big to be easily fixable. I'm told they might be able to do it but I do need something to show myself in.

Well, I am giving you partial credit for pushing my mind over the fence I had sat upon for about a year. My jacket is not only very cool, it is worth saving. I suppose I just needed that extra bit of incentive  to get it done.

When I balked at the repair cost, I had only just begun to think of the real cost. Mine does not have a hole in it. It has a broken zipper. It seems incomprehensible  to do other than repair the zipper.

Thank you, Odeon for allowing yourself to shove me to the right side of the fence I was sitting upon.

a replacement for my melted kolinsky sable watercolor brush

:woohoo: A replacement for my melted kolinsky sable watercolor brush!!  :zoinks:

That isn't yours.  Keep your grubby paws off it!  :dom:

hmm. looks like a mouse, calls itself a cat, it must be the GOPHER!

'bout time we had a proper gopher icon , methinks

I  might even try and find the right thread to post that suggestion in, cos i know, i know, smilies are such a superimportant thing, we have to  follow the accepted  procedure to the letter there.  Let chaos reign everwhere else, but smilies , well  smilies....ah, they are part of the chaos, they sit at the heart of the chaos, making the whole chaos thing possible, and must therefore be protected from the chaos.

I just knew there had to be some kind of rationale there  :green:

Damn straight. I have six, possibly seven if one of my old ones is still hanging around.

Two trenchcoats, a bomber-biker jacket style one, shorter and heavy as that new president wanker they got in the US, whassisname...on the tip of my tongue can't think of it..damn warmongering playboy thuggish chump that makes bush look like a limp wristed knob fairy, or rather more of one, and with an IQ that one could use, if one had a box big enough to nail him in, with a couple of metal pipes attached to either side for condensing liquid helium...muppetish name, that is sitting there and befouling the tip of my tongue as if it were a bite taken from a dogshit sandwich.

Plus I have two really tight, form-fitting thin leathers, one a zip up and one that has one large button in the center so it opens into a V at the collar-chest area and approaching the waist also.  I got the biker jacket for about £12-14 or so, and the two form-fitting figure hugging ones for about £6 a piece. One of the trenches is getting old, and I am going to either retire it for a labcoat with some inbuilt armor compared to cotton (I.e by ways of being thicker and more resistant to splashes or spills of acid or strong base, other misc. corrosives and oxidizers or remove the damaged arm, and the other one both, turn it into a sleeveless trench, weighted with lots of little laminated packets of finely powdered lead, for a weighted one.

And  :mischief::junkie:'s   :voodoo: arrived today :mischief:

Or rather one subset of a portion of it did. Pics to follow in the skunkworks.

And Lo! there was  :heisenberg:

Lestat looked upon his new  :voodoo: and with his eye, saw that it was fucking awesome shit.

New pants and an enormous new sweater to wear to the Christmas party.
Also, expensive new headphones for my music-listening enjoyment.  Christmas present for myself!  :santa:

Is it one of those sweaters with a Christmas theme or pattern?

I bought some cat food and then went to Good Sammy's where I bought myself 3 t-shirts.

Not a Christmas sweater really, just a black and white design.  8)

A bed for the spare bedroom. Now kid can come over and stay for the night, if she wants to.

First have to clean and assemble it and should wash the cover of the mattress. It has a zipper along three sides, so it's very doable.

The bed is not dirty, but it is second hand, so a good rinse is what it will get.
