Why do guests sometimes show up as "registering", but never actually join? Does the disclaimer scare them away? We've had the same "newest member" for a few weeks.

If someone registers, but doesn't become our newest member, it's probably a spambot.  We have to screen for those ever since we were signed up on several spambot lists by someone who had a grudge against the site.

It also could be someone who registers, is approved, but who doesn't activate their account, but spambots are much more common.
