He does IT Support for a mining company.

What do they mine?

Data?
I hope not.

Why not?

You got a problem with data mining?
Yes, i am a bit of a private person. And how come you jumped this question on to my thread?

I'm bored.
Lol, is that some kryptic way of asking for someone to brighten up your day.

Nah. I'm finishing up proctoring my
exam. Just needed to waste a moment
or two. Have one student left, and really
need to chase her out.

Hmm, you set an exam then? What on? Is it one that I could do?

Yeah. Just finished grading it. It's on VBA for IT students.
Not really anything interesting at all - just what they stuck
me with.

Poor kids. I made it a much looser exam than usual (not multiple
guess test bank crap), and it looks like the average grade is
about a 50. I'll have to reassure them now.

No you should turn around and say that you refused to give them a dumbed down test, and express your disappointment that they failed to rise to the challenge. That way they will prepare more for the next one and learn more.

I can't do that. The grades aren't as bad as I feared.
But, I do have to curve this - it has to be fair, in comparison
with other students who take the class.

They got a bonus out of taking the harder test.

No it doesnt, i wouldnt curve it very much. That way your students will actually work. Just because your predessor dumbed down the class doesnt mean you have to keep it dumbed donw.

It's mostly memorization shit.
I made it a little more interesting
than usual, but there isn't too much
that can be done about it.

Anyhow, I'm NOT going to penalize
them just for having me - they suffer
enough on that account. I'm just thinking
about giving them an opportunity to up
their grades, by fixing their answers as
homework.

Means more effort for me though, as well
as for them, and with a summer class, things
are pretty tight.

Not sure that it's that important.

I dont see how they suffer from having a teacher who knows his stuff. I wouldnt give them a better oppotunity, all you did was sort the wheat from the chaff. Could you stick this test up?
