God no matter how much I cough and how hard I do it I still can't seem to get rid of the need-to-cough feeling

Been getting worse the last few days, just hope my ears don't play up, I can handle the rest

Sometimes the urge to cough lasts after the congestion is gone, because your throat is so irritated.
However, if it persists, you might be wise to see your doctor, especially given your history of ear problems.   :orly:

Coughing habits after the problem has gone are quite common. If that is the case, you may need something like codeïne to kick the habit.
