Chrysopses, horseflies, gadflies, what ever you name it, still attracted to the wet clay. It's hot, and I can't have my door open. 
I have read that a ziplock bag filled partially with water and a copper penny (or other suitable copper coin) and hung from the top of a door frame will keep flies from entering the house. The theory is that the coin and the bag look like an enormous spider and it's web.
Also, to keep ants from entering a house mark the door sill with chalk. It definitely has kept the ants from Buckingham Palace, now I just need a way to get rid of the newspapermen.
So tempted to try that, just because the plastic bag will burst because of boisterous young ladies walking underneath it.
Ants here don't mind chalk, but, they do dislike pepper, peppermint, or onion-powder. So, unless they are very brave, I am safe of them. (Do have a weird invasion at the front door now and then, but less often than once a year.)
