this one time they people who broke in the shop over the road left a crow bar in our garden and i was convinced theyd be back for it the next night, so i stayed up all night ready for them incase they came in my house

Open the window wide enough for air, but not wide enough for someone to climb inside, then either put a broomstick in the frame cut to a length so the window can't be opened any further or drill a hole through the window casement just big enough to hold a nail that goes through and keeps the window from opening any further.
