DEVO--Baby Doll. As seen in the movie Tapeheads with John Cusack and Tim Robbins (and Jello Biafra in a cameo):

Obscura - Cosmogenesis (the entire CD).   Damn good guitar work.   The guy does sound like Muhammed Suicmez a bit on a few of his solos, but he mostly avoids the neo-classical style and focuses on sounding more jazzy and expressive (there is plenty of sweep picking though).  Hannes Grossman is one of the best drummers in metal, hands down.  It has a few tracks that remind me of Cynic's Focus in the fact they use someone playing a Chapman stick.   Noospheres and United Momentum are my faves so far.   Noospheres has a cool bass solo and plenty of effects on the vocals, which is what reminds me of Cynic.

Speaking of Cynic... their new CD is mixed to me.   The death metal vocals are almost all gone, and Paul is singing almost like he does in Aeon Spoke.   The songs are catchy actually, and the guitar work did not suffer at all.   I definitely do not like the samples on 2 of the tracks, they sound out of place to me (some tribal chanting shit).   It sounds more like a cross of Cynic and Aeon Spoke if anything..    Sean Reinart's drumming is as amazing as usual.   I am liking Integral Birth and Adam's Murmur the most of the songs on the CD.   Since the last CD they released as Cynic was almost 15 years ago, it was still a good effort.

The new Cannibal Corpse CD is kinda meh.   I liked the new Deicide more.   I want to get the new Hypocrisy CD bad.   I am more eagerly awaiting new CDs from Carcass and At the Gates.   Of course the new Necrophagist CD makes me excited, I can't wait to hear it.   Their new drummer is incredible.  I have never seen someone integrate Gravity blasts like that during a song.   Pretty fucking insane.

Hey, thanks for the heads-up!

I often hesitate to buy new music, because so many of the bands I like change so drastically between releases. Then, when I do find some band that I really like, I go back and buy older albums, only to be disappointed.

Always good to have another guitar nut's perspective.

Jimi Hendrix: When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.

Ghandi: Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

The end result of life's daily pain and suffering, trials and failures, tears and laughter, readings and listenings is an accumulation of wisdom in its purest form.

I pirate it all because I am a piece of crap person.   I will buy at least two of those CDs when I find them in stores.   So far, none of the stores in this area carry Obscura or Cynic.

Take it from someone who knows quite a bit about how the industry rapes the artists, having worked in music for eighteen years - You're not a piece of crap person and I think copying is fine.

Hell, you just said that you had reviewed these works and plan to buy some music from these artists. The artist will not make money from your purchase, but you will be supporting the industry with your next purchase. Producing and promoting a CD is quite costly, so without the "industry"  we would have far less music from which to choose.
Promoting the artists the way you just have is what the industry should do more!

Me and my friend got the CD today from a store.   It was their only copy.    Obscura and Cannibal Corpse play next month here at the Freebird (bar/club owned by a Lynrd Skynrd band member).   I am going to that show.

Been converting my old tapes to MP3s the past month. Very time consuming. I just started my bootleg collection of live shows, which numbers in the hundreds.

Awesome!

... and see? NOW, you are truly supporting the artist. Buy a T-shirt while you're there, if you can.

It is an involved undertaking, but definitely worth the effort.
