Keeping the tape machine spinning with Eric Johnson and his spacy guitar work. Enjoying the night that SRV surprised him, by showing up at his old haunt on Sixth Avenue for a set.

I was rolling tape and ecstatic to be there.

Eric is the full boat, but having Steve on stage again, WITH HIM, was a huge treat!

He only brought his guitar and plugged into a DB and folded over to Eric's second amp stack.

I have a pure, direct tape of Steve's hands, sober-ish.

This one I will upload for you guys when I have a decent connection.

Sixth Street (Austin, Texas, actually, beautiful, central Texas - I don't know why I always say Sixth Avenue - ???) was an amazing experience in itself, in the eighties.

I was based in San Antonio during that time and I jumped at ANY chance to drive eighty miles for a weekend gig on Sixth Street. It didn't really matter which club. It was the place to be! I have worked with EJ quite a bit in the years gone by. We went together for my first time to Canada (Calgary and Banff, Alberta).

I learned a hell of a lot about crossing the border with gear on that trip. I had to leave some in customs upon return and pay storage and shipping to a holding company.
