Pubs that have been turned into something else
« on: August 19, 2018, 08:55:27 AM »

This used to be a town centre pub in Wigan.  I took this photo in 2007.  It is now a Thai restaurant.

(from TripAdvisor)

Are there any other places from near where you live that have been repurposed, and if so, how are they now?  Can you do a before-and-after?

Repurposing old pubs isn't abig thing here.

Unless you count filling them with poker machines and making most of your revenue from gambling instead of beer. That's actually a big thing here.

It is a big thing here.  A lot of pubs have closed down and they either become houses, flats or restaurants.  My local became a block of flats a couple of years ago.  People live there now.

Pokies really are a big thing there it seems.  I've seen photos of bars with massive crude signs outside.  It really does look an unsightly mess.

Somebody even wrote a song about how much pokies in pubs suck

This is what the cask fonts looked like in my local before they shut.  Glorious.

Can someone move this to a private area of the site?

All the pubs are now Indian Restaurants.

All the closed down shops are now boutique ale houses.
Ever got that feeling that you're trying to teach a dog a card trick?

I'm not sure, but I don't think pubs have ever allowed poker machines here in WA. They're only at the casino.

I was in Toowoomba, QLD in 2012 - 13 and I saw a fair few pokies there.
