I used "sub judice" in my appellate brief and my professor admitted to having to Google it.  To me that feels like a win, but he felt I should have dumbed it down :(

NEGs to your prof for wanting you to "dumb down" an intellectual exercise.

Is this lametard asking you to eliminate Latin from the voice of law?  If so, he may have forgotten from whence a large portion of modern day law comes.

:yikes:

Yes, I agree.  What's the point of getting a law degree if I can't use it to talk down to people ;)

Well, you can also have their asses in court.

That takes extra effort.  Have to draft a complaint, drive to the courthouse, pay for parking, wait in line ..... :GA:

Of course, once you do that you get to bankrupt them in discovery, even if you don't really have a case.

I used the word "opined" in an essay and my tutor drew a circle around it and put a question mark there. There is such a word, I know there is.

I know the feeling.  When I was a university auditor, I used the word "criterion" appropriately in a report.  My boss made me change it to criteria "because it looks better."  Excuse me, but this report is going to a PHD head of a department!!!!!

Seven criteria more.

Circumlocution is a good one...*reminisces Charles Dickens' circumlocution office from Little Dorrit*
Can't you guys even just imagine it?

Forget practicality, or your experience....can you just....imagine?

It's there. It always was.

I remember when Rod Serling used the word "synergy" in the introduction to a Twilight Zone episode.  It wasn't well known or used before then.

I like calling people dinguses, but the situation to call them one hardly comes up. Its a really under used word.
