It's just a political stunt to try and reinforce that Obama is all liberal etc as well as dampening the triumph of Trump letting Assange off, if he does.  Though the press will just say he is being rewarded for the hideous crime of exposing Clinton's crimes and because Assange is a Russian agent.

You think Trump is going to let Assange off?

I read that Assange agreed to be extradited to the USA in return for Chelsea Manning being let off. That would be quite the coup for freedom of information if they both got off.

The article made a good point that it weakens the case against a publisher when the source is pardoned.

It's funny; the day before it happened I was talking with the boyfriend about this; he brought up Snowden, I countered with Manning, frankly on basis of need.  Chelsea manning needed this more than Edward Snowden did.  He's OK.  He's OK in Russia, but he's OK.  Chelsea Manning is not OK where she is right now.

I find it funny how Obama dismissed Snowden as a hacker...I think hackers are often incredibly intelligent. I admire great intelligence, esp. when a good heart goes with it.

I don't think he got very far though, people don't care that they're being watched and hacked into. :/
