WALLINGFORD — Local police received a complaint when a shopper discovered Nazi and Confederate merchandise at a popular flea market last weekend, according to Chief William Wright.

An officer responded to the Redwood Flea Market on South Turnpike Road Sunday to investigate the report and found Nazi and Confederate memorabilia for sale. He told the complainant, who is Jewish, there was nothing police could do because the merchandise was on private property

WTF  why would you even think of calling the cops? Not displaying it on a government building I get but this is ridiculous.     I don't sell at this flea market but go there to buy frequently and the place isn't overflowing with the stuff it has about  the same amount I have seen most places,  I have even sold some Nazi stuff and would sell Confederate stuff too if I ever got any.

Personally I know someone that has one hanging in his business. I really doubt they intend to remove it anytime soon.

I think it's in how you view it...honestly it's more like the redneck symbol of rebellion here.

Things are things imo, it's all in the interpretation or what people feel they "should" stand for/or not.

Just two-three days ago I had a lengthy debate with someone who finally admitted that it all came down to skin color and appearance. Appearance! Of alllll the things he could go around worrying about - it was people's appearance =I and all under the guise of "humanism" - "I just want to help to avoid racial wars"

Wikipedia is fine; it's only annoying when presented as, here read this and learn something link only, rather than presenting the information in one's own words and using a Wikipedia link as a backup source. Racialism applies to people who attribute qualities of better/worse as inherent to race, or consider different races as different human sub-species.

For years, Ive occasionally worn a Celtic Cross necklace like the one in the photo. Never thought anything of it. Ive only just been told that here in Hungary, its a symbol of white supremacy  Ive been told that I really shouldnt wear it.

Of course, I could be an arsehole, and keep wearing it anyway, because to me its a symbol of my Celtic heritage and certainly not of racist sentiment. However, it seems pointless to wear a symbol that many find divisive and offensive, just because the symbol represents something different to me.

It's the ultra-nationalists who set their claws into all the old symbolisms they can find, and "claim ownership" over them.

Some try to visibly claim them back, I've even seen an anarchist-punk type CD cover with a huge swastika on it, and obviously, this task is nearly impossible, I doubt their swastika-CD cover made much of a difference -.-
Maybe in time, some of these symbol-uses will fade, but we're probably talking centuries.
