I recently turned 38 and agree with Icequeen's statement.

On some points I was very grown up always, on other points it is never going to happen. I did mature in some things though.

^Like managing money? Taking care of offspring?

Money managing is something I have become better at.

Money managing is something I have become better at.

Managing money never was a problem. For my own sake I am really stingy, for others pretty generous, but I am always able to pay my bills, if I am the only one with access to the money. I did have the caring bit from the start too.

But, forms and paperwork I am slowly maturing in. I'll try more and more to do them without help, and if it freaks me out, I now will get help, instead of deciding to let it be if it would bring me gain, and freak out completely if it would cost me, if I did not do things right.

Also maturing a bit when it comes to letting go.

Don't think I will mature in humour, in sillyness, and in becoming a really regulated person when it is about bedtimes and such.

@ Graelwyn, I am ten years ahead of you, and I am famous for my farts.  :hyke:

I'm not a grownup, but I am getting older.

Hmm. I regard everybody who's posted on this page as grown-up ( well, compared with your average troll, at least)
But then i clearly have an an idiosynchratic view of what "grown-up" means" *chuckle*

eg, "Grown up" to me means not giving a damn about whether other people perceive you as grown-up.  Not giving a shit for "dignity" . But caring very much about the impact of your actions instead.

I've noticed that NTs often apply a polar opposite definition. (That would be on account of their superior empathy, I guess. )

By your definition I've been a grown up for a very long time. To the massive embarrassment of a toddler who did not want to walk outside with her mother.... Thank goodness she outgrew that. She now does not mind being seen with me.

I still struggle with controlling my money and paperwork, I have a bad habit of casting it aside and forgetting about it, or putting it off repeatedly. I don't know what it is about paperwork, but it just seems to instantly put me in an irritable mood.

Also, is the issue with regulating bedtimes and the like a common aspie issue?
I seem to always end up getting stuck in a routine of staying up all night, and missing half the day or worse.
I get really frustrated about it, as to me, I should be perfectly capable of controlling when I do things.

Generational change. Kids these days stay in their room because there's so much cool stuff in there. Go outside, is the proper order now.

Or lock them in a smelly bathroom for a few hours as an alternative.
