Interesting. English go is more similar in meaning to Latin eo than to the related Swedish and German gehen. and gehen in principle always mean "to walk".
that is civilized.
Coffee.
Misunderstood.

Barbarians. You didn't note my comments about what coffee might have been called by the Romans or that the English verb go has a wider meaning than its cognates in other Germanic languages  :thumbdn:

I did note your comments. Did you want me to comment on them?

Well, just to comfort you, Dutch uses "gaan" more in the English way than the German way.

Happy now?

Have a cup of coffee and relax.

Well, "go" is interesting because it does have a wider meaning in some languages. I believe regional differences, slang, etc, would account for at least some of that. OTOH, it occurs to me that the Swedish "gå" might be a subset of the original meaning rather than "go" being a superset of it.

What "coffee" would have been called by the Romans holds no interest to me, OTOH.

According to Wiktionary, PIE *ǵʰēh₁- meant "to leave"  :nerdy:

It held no interest to the Romans either.  :zoinks:

Maybe I should start drinking just wine instead, like a real Roman  :wine:

Could it be that in English and Dutch, the verb is used to tell that you are leaving what you are doing or not doing, for starting another action. Like, "I'm going to make some coffee."
