Meh, I hate Facebook because it seems almost obligatory. It`s a huge data mining operation and I`m paranoid about shit like that, it`s easing people into giving up more personal info.

Useful for keeping in touch with friends and family though, and fun.

I wish I had not bothered to join facebook, although I am pleased I can keep in touch with abroad cousins.  At least I can know to never join Tweeter though.

I use it for productive reasons, for example our year in college made a group to help each other out. I'd be fucked without it. It's not all about mindless narcissism, that's just the people.

As for people putting up personal info, they're fucking morons if they're unaware of the consequences, facebook or not.
