Nice! It's actually made up of living things: diatoms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatoms
I don't know why I find them so interesting; a lot of them just seem so beautiful and don't look living, but they are.

Another one I've been wanting to learn! I keep meaning to teach myself the Cyrillic alphabet, but I always forget...

It's really easy if you do it in segments.

Hi Philosopher,

  :welcome: to I2

What's the most comfortable language for you?

Hint - the right answer is, "The language of love."

My native tongue is English, but I'm about half fluent in German and I've learned some basics of Japanese and Mandarin Chinese that I'll like to expand on soon. I also want to learn a couple more European languages. I hope to be fluent in at least 4 languages at some point.

And thanks for the video, Binty! I hadn't heard of that group before; I'll be certain to check in to more of their stuff. That song is amazing.  :2thumbsup:

I'd recommend you to pick up Spanish first, then use it to learn the basics of Italian and French. Or, you could learn Scandinavian languages as a group. Norwegian or Swedish first is probably the easiest route.

Yeah, I've been thinking about learning Spanish, but it just seems really difficult for some reason... sometimes I like a challenge in language-learning, but I don't know why I'm kind of shying away from this one. I'll start one day, though...
I've been wanting to learn the Scandinavian languages, too; I love the sound... and I also like the Scandinavian  accents in English.

Spanish is fairly easy to learn and gives you a good base for quite a few other languages.

If I told you that my hometown is Lompoc, Ca., can you tell me the connection between Lompoc and diatoms without looking it up on google or wiki??  :orly:

He's probably busy learning languages instead of wasting time here!   :book:

Perhaps he decided not to bother with bitchboards altogether.  He seemed an intelligent bloke so maybe he has gone somewhere to brush up on his conversational skills instead.  Good choice noob and if you pass by can i come too?
