mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :( cryptozoology
« on: October 29, 2011, 11:11:08 PM »
why do they ALWAYS allow retards to participate in cryptozoology?
we will get NOWHERE as long as we keep allowing retards to share their opinion :(

every time, it starts out realistic enough, like "the mongolian death worm", despite its dramatic name its a:
worm. realistic enough right?
its red. okay, im down with that.
its 0,5-1,5 metres long. a bit large, but hey, they cought a 60 cm earthworm in norway, so, why the hell not?

but then
it can shoot fucking lightning at you, and spit acid, yes, and cause instant death by sheer will. wooh! you know what, give it red glowing eyes while we're at it, make it a shape-shifter, yeah, totally, its probably AN ALIEN!

WHY!? why does it always end up like that :S

chupacabra: its carnivorous. okay. it resembles a dog. wow. i can believe that. foxes resemble dogs. foxes exist.
but then it has fangs, red glowing eyes, bat-wings, and it fucking TALKS to people. "dijo - soy el diablo :O"

stop. stop including the contributions of retards :(

You seem to have invested a lot of emotion in the subject Zeg. People I have heard calling Coast To Coast seem to be more gullible and prone to believe stupid shit* in general than the population at large. I get a laugh when people call in about Nessie and the idea that a breeding population of elasmosaurs lasted through the KT event and are hanging out eating salmon in Loch Ness without ever being reliably detected. Sasquatch reports are even more ridiculous given that no hair, skeletal remains etc have been found. I suppose no sasquatch has ever died of heart failure, Mt St Helens eruption, forest fire etc to be found. If anyone tries a Piltdown man hoax now dna tests would fuck them up within weeks.

*The idea that aliens would spend half of a planets gross assets on sending perverts from Alpha Centauri sector numerous parsecs across the universe to put Turkish anal beads in earthling buttholes is particularly amusing to me. What a waste of resources when they could just get nasty at home.

people are idiots and idiots are stupid and should not be tolerated... the retarded should be tolerated in small doses.

my emotions are about all unknown creatures that are _likely_
such as "a dog", "an earthworm"

it just pisses me off whenever they say "it looked like a dog. OH and it had red glowing eyes" because it undermines everything. unknown dogs _can_ exist.
there is a new cat being described _as we speak_ from the amazone jungle.
it is just a big cat. it doesnt have red glowing eyes, it cant fly, it cannot shape-shift or talk. it just growls, and eats other animals. most likely, its a close relative of the jaguar. this is not considered a cryptid, it is being described along w several other "minor" new discoveries (similar to the borneo expedition, which unvelied a semi-new subspecies of the tree-leopard)

thats all i am interested in, new subspecies of tree-leopards, animals that are feasible and realistic.

but bullshit always gets tangled up into the subject, ruining it for everyone who wants to take it a tad bit seriously.
"so its a cat?"
"yes."
"and its furry, has four legs?"
"yes, oh and it has dragon wings, and shoots flame" <---thats where it gets ruined.

/
Similarily, you have those who say "oh yes, unknown dogs may be possible. and dont forget nessie! and the congolese brontosaur!" NO! :D
the fact that i can accept "a dog" does NOT automatically make me accept a brontosaur! it pisses me off whenever people "subscribe" to a certain philosophy, in that manner. "i believe in cryptids. ergo: i believe in ALL cryptids." <---retardation.

If you want to stay abreast of previously unknown species or subspecies being discovered without the attendant baggage that cryptozoology has (superstitious dumbfucks, gullible dipshits, hucksters and pathological liars) than perhaps biology is what you should be keeping tabs on. Biology is recognized as valid and taught in Universities around the world. Between wildlife biology, botany, ecology, entomology etc you are more likely to find new discoveries than in reading yellow journals that cover cryptozoology, space aliens with butt plugs and the Virgin Mary on toast. It is your time and money though, spend it how you want.

i allready am. my main interest is indeed biology.
i was going to add, my primary concern here is taxonomy, more than anything.
dont talk to me like im a total douchebag here, i am _critical_ of cryptozoology, not celebrating it...
im NOT buying tons of cryptozoology books, so please please dont keep responding as if i am :S

my point is: before an animal is officially acknowledged by biology - it is considered a cryptid. this is inevitable.
cryptid=animal not yet formally described. this doesnt have to be "looney crazy", it can be as simple as an undiscovered beetle...
biology cannot know of all animals that exist, by default. example, the boreo tree leopard. it was a cryptid untill biology acknowledged it. so long as its existence was only hinted at by locals, it - by definition - is a cryptid. and after it has been photographed and formally described, it is no longer a cryptid, but a biologically acknowledged animal. plus, from discovery many years can pass, untill a formal description has been published.

cryptozoology causes problems for biology precisely because it allows retards in on everything. thats all im saying.

summary, in case your just skimming my post: i do not endorse blind cryptozoology, i _only_ put my trust in formally described papers by actual real biologists, by the guidelines of the ICZN and everything... i am annoyed at how cryptozoology makes a mess out of the concept of "animal not yet described"

The fringe always attracts lots of nuts.

that is exactly what i am refering to

the fringe of reality, is still reality:

1) undiscovered animals exist // but nutjobs muddle the topic up with red-glowing-eyed chupacabras
2) life in space exist (we live in space) // but nutjobs talk about aliens buttfucking them, and building pyramids and big ben.
3) many an ancient civilization has died out // nutjobs talk about "enlightened" peoples of atlantis or anasazi

each topic DOES have real scientific merit, if only the nutjobs would keep the fuck away :I

The "dijo - soy el diablo" bit made me burst out laughing

that is from a nat geo docu, more or less litterally, or at least how i remember it

thing to consider in this case is, theyre mexicans, farmers (uneducated, poor) and catholic.
so, what they probably saw was a dog, in darkness, but they mistakedly assume that if they report "a dog" nobody will care (biologists will, but, uneducated, poor and catholic, they dont know this)
instead they embelish "a tiny bit", being uneducated and catholic, adding devil wings, and making the dog talk isnt that unrealistic to them. so, as a "tiny little exaggeration", she claimed the creature talked to her, and presented itself as "the devil", in spanish...  ::)
at least, thats how i interpret the psychology behind it to work

I just had a mental imagine of a winged, red-eyed chihuahua talking in an exaggerated Spanish accent :P

Have you ever heard of birds of paradise?  I think you might like 'em.  They're awesome.

of course i know about them, i am very interested in birds.
which is why i take offense when people mistake me for a magic-and-aliens nut :D (ppk, above :D) im a pragmatic zoologist...

paradise birds are actually an "off-shoot" of the crow-family.
asian corvids are allready quite colorful, compared to the usually black/gray species we are used to.
paradise birds are "even more" colorful sub-family of the crows.

and AWWW david attenborough :D
i made a short claymation movie in animation class some years ago, where i imitated his voice :D

unfortunately i dont.
being aspie, i "aspied" away that year. i made mostly unfinished works, and well, i was mostly just a mess.
i finished 2 animations.

one was that claymation one, showing a chimpanzee sleeping in an observation room, waking up, smashing a banana, and sleeping again, while an attenborough-ish voice describe how incredibly intelligent it is.

the other was the "final exam", a one minute aspiely-detailed piece showing a dinosaur running, and evolving into a bird. being a dinosaur fanatic, i made sure to keep the transitions between species as accurate as possible, and topped it with a smoooth bossa nova soundtrack :D
