Stopped to see why this yellow post appeared on the side of the road about four days ago.
Yellow post with a flag on it, yeah, they're everywhere, but thick post? No flag? No work going on? Odd. Just sticking up near a finished ditchwork area? Drive by it a couple of times each way on taxi days. Ignored it until I could no longer - for days!
Turns out to be a broken handled EIGHT POUND sledge hammer (True Temper brand) apparently left behind by the work crew after breaking it.
I will fix this and re-handle this beast. (Lowe's handle to fit, online research: about $40 for proper hickory) This makes the sixth sledge hammer I have picked up from the side of the road over the years.
To think that this reusable item sat abandoned beside the busy roadway for days and no one cared. I will revive this old iron!
This one will be the heaviest hammer in my stable when I get it fixed. I plan to put it to work with my log splitting mauls, very soon.
About a month ago, I noticed hundreds of deck screws alongside the turn I often make, just fell off a truck or something. No telling how many cars are carrying around a few of these in their tires.
I came back next trip with a stick magnet and picked up about three pounds of free deck screws!!
But more importantly, I cleaned out a serious road hazard I had to drive by quite often.
