^Ultrasound can spot inflammations. It's not an uncommon examination if you've got PsA.

Already have one dx, pompholyx, a blistering autoimmune condition where the skin thickens like crazy and blisters form underneath, can affect hands and feet, or either one alone. In my case, its both feet, not hands, although my left hand looks as if it had, but it doesn't blister. Thats just scarring from both a perchloric acid burn and a burn (that did most of the damage) from, when I was a young'un, opening up a type of lithium battery, hoping to fillet it for the Li metal, but I was unaware, of the existence, at the time, of lithium batteries which use thionyl chloride, SOCl2, as the electrolyte, and after a pressure-relief pin was accidentally pulled out, it sprayed all over my hand, eating through the leather and metal-spiked glove I was wearing on that hand, the one holding the battery, and it just..shit..rotted right the way through the leather as if it were aging a hundred years every few seconds, whilst the steel spines on them rusted to fuck right before my eyes. The SOCl2 in the battery, one of a haul from a demolished building site, (thankfully, I managed to recover the rest of the SOCl2, which at the time was infinitely more precious because I couldn't buy it and it is both difficult and exceedingly dangerous to make) hit me, ate through the glove and then carried on going. When I tried to take the gloves remains off of my hand, what used to be skin just came off with it. Ironically they call that sort of injury, where the skin and surface flesh of a hand (and foot, I think, at least, not sure on that one) a 'degloving' injury.  In this case it was literal. Because it just peeled away exposing the bare, acid-covered, smoking muscle tissue underneath. Wasn't what I'd call fun or particularly recommend. Its quite uncomfortable. Lets just say, no little child should have ever heard, let alone used the words that came out of my mouth immediately on its chewing through the glove, rotting it away to scraps and rusted metal spikes falling away as the leather they were anchored to just..fell apart, leaving behind a smoking, HCl-soaked, sulfur dioxide-stinking bare muscle and connective tissue.

And...no..definitely  does not come recommended. Not in the least. And you can buggering well bet your last penny that I was a LOT more careful, once I knew what was inside those batteries as well as lithium metal, to say nothing of how virulently corrosive and highly water-sensitive it is (turns to acid on contact with water, including fuming in the open air, and reacts violently with water....and human blood plasma/serum) giving off hydrochloric acid gas fumes and SO2, billows off in great big, stinking, satanic sulfurous, corrosive clouds of toxic gases.

So one hand looks like it ended up the same way as my feet. But in that case no, its pompholyx, but now they suspect tendinitis, in the form of plantar fasciitis, and possibly of the achilles tendon. 50-50 percent chance per foot of sharp bone-spurs (calcaneal spurs) growing out of the fucked up bone beneath and jabbing into the foot from the inside.

I'd already been using a pretty potent corticosteroid topical cream for the pompholyx, which when it flares up it clears up in no time with the strong-ass steroid they give me, which is fortunate, since I already had access to it when the damn tendinitis began. Its whenever I rest my feet on even a soft surface like a quilt that makes it kick off and start screaming, though, which is pretty odd, given that plantar fasciitis is almost always due to repetitive strain/sports injury etc. and there is no way in hell I'm likely to be running about playing sport. Always hated sports anyway to begin with, and my knee and hips would REALLY not be forgiving of me if I were to try and start liking it now.

It just kinda.....happened, really. Started for no apparent reason. So due to get an ultrasound done. Good news is that if there is a calcaneal spur on either foot, then ultrasound can, in a more powerful and focused form be used to  destroy the excess bone with minimal invasiveness.

Although I'm still not taking wikipedia's word for 'minimally invasive' etc., and am definitely going to be telling them to pump me full of something strong in the way of painkillers if they are to be using ultrasound to pulverize bits of my bones or pound up tendons. Fuck yes I am :P Because it SOUNDS invasive enough to me. Minimally is relative :autism:.

For all I take that at face value it might mean minimally compared to having a shark rip your face off and then be skinned alive, nailed to a tree and doused in a flaming mixture of bleach and petrol.

Sooner they find out exactly what the fucking cause is the better. Because its NOT pleasant. Hurts like a real cunt when it flares. Especially if I've just woken up, my pain med levels are low, and I've had my foot lying in some position for a considerable time. Then is the worst, when I wake up, after the feet have been in a position that sets it off all damn night. Then its bloody murder. The steroids help, and I've been using lots of diclofenac gel on my heels and the bottom/side of the heel area and arch of the foot. And thank bloody christ I'm already on pain meds and strong ones, because otherwise the pain is quite unbearable, even WITH the shit its unbearably intense, but it does at least calm it down and actually make it go away if I lift or move my feet completely off of any contacting surface.

And it does tend not to flare up at its worst, when I'm using the steroid cream and topical NSAID (oral ones are out for me, stomach says NO!) and I want to keep my stomach, since god knows too many other parts of me ain't working properly. I kinda need that particular part :spazz: and of course immediately after I've taken my pain meds, once they've kicked in. Although that does necessitate first taking a low dose (a capsule or maybe two for each nostril, 10mg per cap) of oxy, nasally so it works fast, and squirting some H2O up my hooter-holes to make sure its absorbed.  fast enough to allow me to hobble towards the stairs and go and prepare a shot of morphine sulfate (not into my foot, shit no, just the side of  my leg does just fine, or bicep or ass cheek) which then covers  as much as can be done before I see the specialist ultrasound technicians etc. and get it checked out structurally. And potentially get something done to remedy the issue itself. I hope so at least, because it is really, really painful. Not constantly, its intermittent, comes and goes, depending whether the heels of my feet have been either resting on the sofa without a cushion under my ankles to elevate the heels and rest of the feet off the ground. Even then, sometimes its better sometimes its worse, sometimes no pain at all, all too often though it fucking shrieks and howls like a damned soul being dragged back to hell by the devil himself after climbing all the way up and getting his very hands on the earthly ground again.

All I know for sure, though until I see the ultrasound techs and get me a look at the scans is that it isn't the pompholyx  doing it on its lonesome, since that simply causes skin to thicken and harden, almost like plates of insect chitin, but the steroid creams soften it up real quick, within hours sometimes, sometimes within a day maybe two of repeated use, and it causes the affected appendages, in my case just feet, to form loads of relatively small, deeply seated blisters under the skin, that itch like a whore's snatch after the yeast is fucked out of her with an asbestos dick; and given half  a chance would turn into weeping sores. Although the steroids nix that potential nastiness and the whole feet on fire thing, with the blistering, and corticosteroids also as a side effect on the skin cause skin-thining. Which is often a bad side effect, of course, but given that in this case the skin is excessively trying to thicken and over-grow and eventually just dead skin surface falls off in plates. Although the steroids in this case help thin it down. As well as my using a very sharp knife blade, to jam beneath the skin, staying within the dead surface layer, and making a cut, then basically peeling it back away in one piece (if I can, as few as possible at least) like peeling an orange.

Only..its a foot orange. A foot orange that hurts. Although the peeling it bit doesn't since thats only slicing through the dead skin surface layer, which has overgrown and paring off several millimeters (about the thickness of a pound coin at its worst) although thats a last resort, when the corticosteroid cream doesn't cause it to grow thinly enough so I don't have to slit across it and peel it away as a...a..a..well...a sheet-of-feet, which then just goes into the bin. Once removed, the fucking fuckers harden like chitin almost. As if my feet were turning to toenail/fingernail or insect chitin.

That doesn't hurt, but it doesn't look good if its allowed not to be beaten back by the strong-ass steroids. And it is seriously uncomfortable, and can overgrow so much its difficult to bend my feet etc. since its like...as if they were covered on the bottom in epoxy resin, slightly flexible but not very. Although at least the damn things are hard-wearing if  I have to walk barefoot, on stony ground etc.

What am i doing now...watching a horror movie, starring some sort of govt-mutated genetically altered fish bioweapons that escaped and are now, predictably slaughtering a big beach party at night, whilst a couple of scientists go diving with explosive charges to set; like when fishermen in some places, use the immensely destructive to wildlife and habitat technique of dynamite fishing. Basically chuck in explosive charges into the water and have them go off under water, killing fish en masse and just scooping up the floating bodies. Downright fucked up thing to do, but they do it for profit. Only in this movie, its to wipe out the area where these fuckers, bred, it seems part from flying fish, that go launching after people and killing 'em off; are breeding and blast the swarm of killer flying fish to hell.

That, and A-munching some donuts, ring donuts with caramel sauce inside and caramel bits on top of chocolate covering one half of the donut. B-smoking a stogie and C-playing fallout-tactics. Decided to redo a mission after by chance finding out that in the raider camp, that I've sent in a 4-man assault team to both rescue a scientist, retrieving an artifact of some kind, some sort of cybernetics for the brotherhood of steel, rescue the scientist who got waylaid by the raider party and taken back to their main base in the area at the time he was trying to bring it in to the BOS base, and assassinating 4 specific top-ranking raider gang leaders, with a side mission I've discovered that was unknown in the briefing, they'd also kidnapped and some whore bitch raider female was using them as a sex slave, to clear the area around the tribal guy, after first gunning the bitch and a couple of her bodyguards down.

Found out there is a fuel depot. First time, completed the mission then read online that its actually better NOT to blow the fuel depot up. Which last time I didn't know, and deciding to shut the base down permanently, with extreme prejudice walked round and casually put a pistol bullet into each and every fuel tank. Result-BOOM!

But, hadn't realized, hadn't been briefed that the brotherhood planned to move on in and take over the fortified position for their own use. Hopefully, since I had a save from before I finished the mission and was about to head back to base for debriefing etc, and flogging the loot taken from the cold, dead, bullet, laser-bolt and buckshot-filled, knifed, chainblade-gutted and occasionally blown up and/or set on fire raider crews and their attack dogs' carcasses. (well not the dogs. Since one's average dog doesn't tend to pack a czech skorpion automatic pistol (based on the real world firearm, its a compact design of automatic pistol from czechoslovakia, intended to be able to be used by tank crews firing from gun ports), lower damage than the MP5 9mm automatics I typically issue my troops as sidearm submachineguns and the range  is a little lower. But in a bind, well then if some dozy git drops his uzi or skorpion after forgetting to hold on to it once someone sneaks up behinds him and blasts his skull into pate dripping down a wall, and there are other buggers firing, and a loaded weapon is needed, then its getting grabbed and emptied into the shooter trying it on. And of course there is a lot of ammo and guns to be looted from them, and other goods, grenades now and then if I can snipe any wouldbe grenadiers from too far away for them to toss one, and that make great little nasty surprise tools for sneak attacks on grouped enemies. Lob one in and run for it, any survivors give chase, and run straight in face first to the gun barrels of 3 shotgun/scoped hunting rifle, laser pistol/submachinegun or assault rifle-wielding troopers waiting in ambush just ready for the scout to come leg it and then hit the deck as the rest open fire  and blow any survivors away. Assuming of course a  surprise frag or incendiary antipersonnel grenade or molotov cocktail doesn't send them to hell straight away to begin with.

And as soon as I've got a good enough safecracker, and trap/explosives expert, I'll be back to harvest a minefield plus crack a safe that is bound to have plenty loot in it. The mines can either go for sale, or else at least a few I think I'll keep in reserve, lest I ever want to run my team behind a door if they are being chased, and quickly rig it to blow with an antitank mine, for quite the unsuspected and most definitely unwelcome nasty little surprise :LOL1:

Didn't do much at first because of how hot it was (it got to 40C where we are) got ready and went to Officeworks and it was so nice and cool in there. I had a voucher from Christmas and so bought a USB stick for next semester at college, coloured Blu-Tak, a ream of white paper and a pen that has red, blue and mechanical pencil.

Then we went to Bunnings where Kayleigh bought a hanging rack for her room, some shelves to go on top of others in the lounge room, concentrated window cleaner, a squeegee and spray bottle. It was really hot in there, they have fans but that's it.

I like those propeller pencils, they are great, especially the ones with really, really fine long leads in them. They suit my preference for compact cursive handwriting when taking my lab notes.

ATM though I use a fountain pen for that. I'd like to get another propelling pencil though.

Although for when its time to transfer the real success stories from notebooks to leather-bound blank books, I like to use a quill pen and ink, that suits my cursive writing style too and I like the way a quill shapes the lettering. Although I would only use one when copying notebook entries that are the big successes I make when I make one, something worthy of being copied into my proper lab log-book. I find swan feathers make a great quill pen, having a large internal bore, means they can, with a very sharp penknife or better, a surgical scalpel or a glass blade (chipped glass can take a REALLY fine, sharp edge to it, that whilst it doesn't keep an edge, can easily be rechipped for a new blade a fair few times, and each edge good for a few sharpenings, IIRC in the case of chipped onyx or flint the edge can in the ideal circumstance be close to a monomolecular edge, perfect for slicing a quill-pen whilst using a scalpel to cut in a slit-hole just in advance of the cut tip of the quill point, with a scratch leading from the small hole serving as ink reservoir to the tip with the little slit in the point, so the ink flows by capillary action to the tip and allows one to write more without having to re-dip the pen into the ink.

I like the style of writing that they allow, it suits my handwriting when I'm doing it carefully and slowly in my cursive handwriting rather than the rapid speed-first note-taking when I've got to both write quickly and in large volume of data AND attend the reaction itself.

What I've done, is for monday since tuesday hasn't started yet much.

I've been online here and there. Sent my old man to pick up my meds for me monday morning, and at the doc surgery he collected the prescriptions from, went to, later in the day, an appointment with my GP about getting on the memantine, which hopefully, I might get a definitive 'yes, here we go then' on thursday. Had to pick up extra meds too, antibiotics (course of erythro) plus a fresh seizure rescue pack (same med as my antiseizure prophylaxis monotherapy, chlormethiazole. Fast, efficient at stopping the sodding seizures as they start as hell is at claiming damned souls. And with, at least in my case, the most excellent tolerance properties, having induced no physical dependency despite taking it at minimum

(I.e ignoring the extras used as and when needed to rescue myself from a breakthrough seizure, or else have my old man open the bottle and put a couple in my mouth for me to swallow when I can't move to pick the bottle up, but can just about manage to sign 'I want' and point to it, with the rest being obvious enough he doesn't need to know any more ASL than that. )

Picked up the meds, also gave a pharmacist a severe bollocking for daring to ask questions of me as to the reasons I wished to purchase items.  Had to put him in his place, and make sure he knew his was to sell items, mine is to buy items, in any case other than cashing-in a prescription from a doctor. If I want something I have a reason. The reason is for me to know, the product is for him to sell and me to pay for and walk out of the door with. End of. His is not to ask why, only to accept the money and give such change as may be due, after scanning the item and taking my money.

Took meds. Played fallout-tactics, Grabbing a rather useful second automatic assault-shotgun capable of automatic fire, and which, if loaded with flechette shells (basically shells loaded rather than with lead buckshot, shells loaded with a big pack of razor-sharp fin-stabilized double-ended metal spikes. Against lightly armored to moderately armored targets they make a fuck of a mess, and unarmored targets I've seen a group of three or four people literally severed in half across the torso after a double-barreled shotgun blast was loosed off at one target at closer range, killing that one instantly, and carrying on to shred the other targets  so badly they were all again instantly killed, and cut in half. The guy closer up just ended up as formerly human  marmalade. The kind with the shreddy-bits in it. Actually made it quite a bit of work to loot the bodies, because it was difficult, such was the mess, to tell how many bodies there are and where they all were. Like sorting through a pulped flesh and bone fragment human jigsaw puzzle only a lot squishier and less distinct as to what patch of gooey stuff was who.

Still managed to loot what I THINK was all of them, for a fair few .45 cal. pistols and some browning hi-power pistols chambered in 9mm parabellum. Plus some combat drugs that can be sold and on reaching bunker beta, I intend to sell in exchange for more flechette shells. Got lots and lots of ordinary shotshells, but each of my 4-man/woman squad at the moment is packing at least 10-20 of those flechette shells that fire that lethal hail of razor-pointed/edged double-ended dart-like spikes. Those things are nasty as fuck, but for close up utter lethality they can't be beat for shotgun rounds, save maybe when fighting robotic enemies, when EMP shotgun rounds are the best rounds for shotguns to use.

Also bought close to $500 worth of new lab glassware. And I've still got over 800 GBP left to buy more lab equipment. I really need a new variable power supply, ideally constant current as an option, plus I need a new vacuum pump, and a powerful, reliable one. Will use Fomblin oil, high quality perfluorocarbon oil in it from the very start for best performance.

Slept most of the day on the sofa, woke up to take meds in the morning, went for a piss, went back to sleep, woke up later for other meds, went back to sleep, woke up to watch star trek, take top-up pain med script for that time period, ate, went back to sleep, slept a long time, breakthrough pain meds, played fallout-tactics.

Not counting any time posting here.

Also, read(ing, when not playing FOT) some interesting organoniobium, organotantalum and organotitanium chemistry stuff, the organoniobium and organo-tantalum chemistry excerpts from the journals they were culled from in particular look interesting :) )

Oh and I farted several times today.

All in all, I've been really busy.

Not much at all apart from having a shower and washing my hair, something I don't like doing, especially now my hair has gotten longer.

Kayleigh and I are going to an autistics meet up in the city this afternoon. Don't know what it will be like. If uncomfortable, I will buy food and concentrate on eating that.

Cat food comes in two categories and two subtypes of one of them. Dry, wet, and wet-came from something with legs and smells like it just came from your ass, and wet-originated from something with no legs and after the cat has eaten it your going to WISH it had come out of YOUR'E ass!

I know what you mean about long hair, its a handful ain't it. Mine is down to where my boobs would be if I had boobs. As it is it has to make do with licking my nipples:tard:

And you ever tried getting a good fit in a gas mask with hair that long? seriously, it is a real fucking headache and fiddly as trying to bugger a live mosquito (and have it STAY alive during being buggered and post-arthropod-sodomy too for that matter)

I do sometimes Ren, depends on how the mask fits, the one at the moment I usually use has a kind of head cradle attached to the upper strap, a band that goes round the back of it and threads through an [|] shaped clasp in a kind of over and under way, and a lower band with a similar fitting to adjust the fit about where the canisters go .  but to the rear , part of the problem is adjusting the straps over the hair, and hair that isn't long enough completely to go and get in the way of forming a tight enough seal (tested by holding a hand over the exit-valve to cover it and then breathing in, if it fits properly, a partial vacuum is maintained and the mask stays sucked-in, where the rubber fittings are.  And for a proper fit you don't want hair underneath anywhere. I'll be buying a fullly enclosed SCBA set when I can though which ought to fix anything like that (basically diving gear but more portable and for use on land and made to a lot higher, stricter tolerance, since with SCUBA gear all you are keeping out is water, seaweed etc. rather than 'one breath and you are dead, no questions asked, plain and simple, you're buggered' ) that takes an air feed from an external tank, with or without a fully closed-circuit rebreather to extend the working life of a tank fill, coupled with one-way filters on the exit, active carbon filtration, and other valves and the like on a belt worn round the waist, along with an oversuit to prevent skin contact etc. with anything really nasty. (I really hate stuff like that, the little nasties that can go through intact skin and still poison you, even worse if its also gaseous, or skin contact with vapor will do you in as well)

But the SCBA will make my life easier thats for sure, and as long as I buy a compressor suitable for filling breathing gear air tanks (I.e made not to spit oil mists into the tank and the like) then pretty much free to operate, aside from new exit filters and filling the rebreather if I decide to use one, since they use consumable chemicals to scrub CO2 from the loop, which is the main problem (even if air has all the oxygen it needs, our breathing out CO2 as a byproduct, when there becomes enough of it will poison the air and make it unfit to breathe. If holding one's breath, it isn't actually a lack of oxygen that one senses as that burning and panicking sensation, its the excess of CO2. In an oxygen-free atmosphere of pure nitrogen for example, which makes up most of the air, but to us at least at atmospheric pressure is quite inert, one would just black out from oxygen deprivation and die, rather than realize they were suffocating)

I read somewhere that if a person has asthma, they shouldn't SCUBA dive. The way my asthma is currently, I wouldn't anyway but I was curious to read that.

Mine is almost at my waist again. It's a bitch in the winter, because I don't blow dry it....I look like a gypsy fortune teller or like I'm ready for a magic carpet ride.

The PR bowled another turkey and a double.  Yawn.

That never came up during my training, as I'm not asthmatic, I do get a bit of a tight chest sometimes, probably from the fumes from opening a certain battery one time, but I have only ever needed an inhaler once, on an acute basis for a few days after a mask mishap during the transfer of iodine monochloride from a flask to an attack-proof storage bottle (at least, attack proof from ICl or ICl3, iodine, or  chlorine gas)

But the air in diving tanks does feel quite dry, and has left me with drymouth before upon surfacing, until I've started to breathe natural air, not from a glorified tin can :P, it would make sense that might aggravate asthma, and of course one can hardly take a hit from an inhaler under water. And during an attack, if one was deep enough it isn't practical to suddenly surface because of the pressure differential, since you have to make decompression stops, holding your depth at preset points so as to slowly permit the nitrogen dissolved in your blood under pressure to come back out, bit by bit, so as to avoid getting the bends, which whilst I have never had the misfortune of the experience I am told is exceedingly painful, and potentially crippling if it causes gas bubbles to boil out into the spinal column, potentially fatal in severe cases.

Been a while since I did my dive training though. I have to admit, it wasn't much fun doing some of the practical dive experience part, I had what IMO was a seriously, seriously negligent and stupid dive master doing the instruction for the course, fucking leading a bunch of new guys (I'd done some prior diving, but all of it in good waters in good conditions, the rest, afaik were all completely inexperienced) out into a flooded quarry with near enough zero visibility, in the middle of winter. Fucking christ, I had to cut it short, and have somebody else drag me out of the quarry, managed to surface, but not before I'd turned cyanotic and started suffering from hypothermia. Could barely move, and certainly not swim.

Damnable moron of an instructor, taking new divers on a training exercise out into conditions like that in the middle of winter, still passed the basic course though, although I quit after that, with them, because I wasn't willing to trust my safety to somebody I would need to depend on, and be able to totally trust to be competent, who is willing to behave that way. Guy was a total idiot if you ask me, could have gotten somebody killed. I'm lucky it wasn't me. Because I'd have been real hard pushed to have gotten out of there in one piece.

I'm surprised I was the only one who ended up in a bad way to that extent, quite honestly. And if it hadn't been the case, and multiple people, more than would be needed to pull those affected out of the water, half conscious, then he'd have been up shit creek,  although not nearly as far as a bunch of divers left with nobody to drag them out of the quarry.

And congrats to the PR. She really does seem to have quite the talent for bowling :)
