Finally got an email yesterday but the salary offer was shit. So shit they'd probably have a heart attack if I told them what I ideally wanted. I made an in the middle counter-offer anyway and they didn't reply.

Still haven't responded. I'm starting to think they're stringing me along because I'm only a backup candidate. All this time between emails is probably spent waiting to hear from their preferred candidate, who's perhaps stringing them along because they have other offers on the table. Either that or they're just really slack and slow. My patience is waning, their aptitude as a potential employer is waning.
The kicker is that that they'll probably change their mind about me on the basis that I can't start soon enough (have to give 4 weeks notice at current job), but if they stopped fart-arsing about I could have put my notice in last Wednesday.

Reminds me of that job I applied for last year where they took 5 weeks to finally respond to my application with a "We need to fill the role ASAP, we know it's short notice but interview time not negotiable, sorry!!" I mean, their urgency wasn't my problem, what the fuck were they doing for the past 5 weeks?

The sad reality is that people are busy, and the more urgent something is, the busier the people are. Not saying your lot aren't being cunts but we've been interviewing project managers for two positions we desperately need to fill, but the fact is that we're ridiculously busy and things slip and the candidates (understandably) get sick and tired and go elsewhere.

I know there are companies that advertise for a job to look good, but I suspect sometimes things slip because there is no time and people are overwhelmed.

I'm listing my conditions for being employed (rather than being a contractor) by my current client but they're still interpreting everything as optional. They've had no problems pulling me through the ranks - I am now responsible for 7 developers, including appraisals, salaries, all of it - but they are also still not giving me the powers to simply change any of that.
