Uk country roads are the pits, all on account of motorists. I used to walk along them often.way back when i was fit enough to walk. cos i love rambling , couldn't afford any other healthy hobby and, most of all, i refuse to let my life be constricted by assholes. But very often you're talking single lane, no sidewalk, with prickly hedges and ditches either side, and , yeah, cars absolutely hurtling along them at random interals. Jumping out of the motorists' way could sometimes prove pretty painful.
