Spent an hour trying to find a proper weed killer online. No luck.
Nervous about using glyphosate or simply can't find it?
I ordered Round Up from Amazon about two months ago. Just do not breathe it.
Never mind our health, glyphosate isn't near so harmless to the environment as they like to pretend. In my last garden , I carefully dug up every trace of invasive bindweed root, dandelion root etc, so as to avoid using glyphosate, for that reason. Yep, it was bloody hard work though. And there were
still a few awkward weeds (eg growing up through cracks in the paving) for which i could see no realistc option but apply glyphosate.
What did folk do about those , before the invention of systemic weedkillers? apply salt, perhaps? but then again, I shouldn't think
that's a good idea, not from an environmental POV.
I tried sowing/planting those cracks with ornamental thyme, to hopefully act as a weed suppressant, but not sure that was gonna work out so well, because the garden ants seemed to have a compulsion to undermine ever bit of thyme they could find. I never got a chance to find out if that was a vaiable idea, because
then my landlady chucked me out. So the whole thing has now gone back to a wilderness I guess.
(Can't expect the next tenant to keep it up. It's almost unkown for private-housing tenants to bother with tending their gardens. And
not because they're all lazy oiks, but rather because it's mad to invest so much time , effort and even (inevitably) money when your tenure is so insecure. I cheerfully confess to being mad in this respect, though i do privately believe that gardening helped to keep me sane)
