May I ask why in all instances, if not too personal?

Guinea pigs are cute. I've never kept small pets like those or rabbits. Family used to keep hamsters though. We had about 12 at one point, because one had babies and we kept them all. That was also in the 90s, but I was a kid back then.

  filled by partners, kids, or pets.  I've loved the idea of having them, but the reality would have been
  quite different than the idea, and I don't think I would have handled the intrusion upon my solitude
  very well.  I see people and and animals enough of the time so I'm not lonely.  I'm able to live a very
  selfish life, in the nicest sense of the word.  Overall, no regrets as I age into my 50s.  8)
