Actually my sister and I did get to ride an elephant and had our picture taken on the elephant.  An itinerant sideshow was traveling the area and Mom took us.  I was definitely NOT amused and hated every moment of the bareback elephant ride.  My sister has the picture and it is not a memory I want to bring to mind too often.

On the other hand, sitting on a Clydesdale bareback was unbelievable.

Words cannot describe the experience.  Yes, they are very gentle and giant.  My legs couldn't bend at the knees because his back was so broad.  I was over 6 feet off the ground.  If I ever win a big enough lottery, I will own at least one Clydesdale.
