Making some poutine.

Damn you and your poutine. Every time I read it, I want to make it and then realize that I don't have what I need. And I went grocery shopping tonight and do you think I remembered to get what I need? Of course not! 

So two questions...what gravy are you using and did you buy cheese curds?

  Columbo was a great detective and also a gentleman who conducted himself
   with courtesy and humility.  Great character, RIP  Peter Falk.

I used powdered gravy mix and shredded mozzerella.

I have to reconsider our friendship. Talk about a faux pas Although I can't see myself making gravy from scratch and shredded would be cheaper than curds. I'll probably settle for bottled gravy (I think it's Newman's that makes a really good one) and see if I can find curds at my grocery store. Sometimes you can only get them at specialty places.

Instead of the mussels, I had Gruyère. Very nice. Home made garlic sauce, of course.

The garlic sauce, albeit I can make a nice one, wasn't home made. Gruyère I mainly use in/on my Fr. onion soup.. don't think I've ever used it on a slice of bread. Dunno.. I use other cheeses. Now have a quite brilliant farmer's cheese ('n oude boerenkaas). Nice nice..

A pistolet (crusty bread roll) with thick slices of pear on it is what I'm eating, atm.
