Here Crown Lager and Victoria Bitter are more or less staples. rock up with a carton of that under your arm and you won't look like a knob. Bundy Rum is pretty popular too. I drink Bourbon and Cola and that is acceptable too. Vodka and kalau and stuff like that is fine...if you are female. A guy will be discommunicated from a party for such a sin :P
Wondered about Fosters, since I'm one who thinks it tastes like cat's piss but it sure tries to make out it's as Aussie as Bruce & Sheila or something. Any other spirits popular? Not my favorites, Sambuca & Pernod? l o l

My understanding is that kangaroos in Oz are like rats in the US.  Pests that have over-run their natural boundaries.  Is that true?

They are not so bad. They are culled regularly. Rabbits, cane toads, foxes, and the like really are the bigger problem. Also feral pigs.
We fucked up with these fucking things. Cane toads are a real blight.
