Tax reform.
As a family making between one twenty and one thirty thousand dollars year after year for over twenty years we have benefited some from his tax reform deal.
It seems as if every time the Republicans lower taxes, we all are better off. With many corporate entities deciding to give bonuses to their employees instead of paying those funds out in taxes the resonances of Reagan-ism ring far and wide.
Our personal taxes look about the same as last year, but we got about fifteen hundred dollars more back as a refund from the IRS.
Yes, we did our taxes yesterday. All filed electronically and we expect a refund check of about six Gs electronically deposited in about a week.
Of course some one is going to say that the tax plan will not take effect until next year. I call bullshit.
That doesn't sound like end of the world stuff. That sounds pretty good.
Well, as one of the new "jumpers" onto the bandwagon, the company I work for has just dumped twenty million dollars into the fund that supports employees who attend college to help with tuition, travel and living expenses.
They ponied up with one thousand dollars for every full time employee (very welcome at my door, btw) and five hundred dollars for every part time employee. Oh, That includes Canadian, Mexican and Puerto Rican employees as well, but in exchange rates that are comparable to all.
Not sure the breakdown, but this company employee roster is in the sixty thousand range, including all, but the salaried employees, already entitled to massive bonuses are not included in this bonus pay day.
These funds became available due to a huge "bring it all back to The USA" corporate taxing provision in this new tax bill.
But, to answer your question, this bill has been called "Armageddon" by Pelosi and almost as bad by many on the hill.
Major edit:
OOPS! I kind of blew that number about the total number of employees our company employs. It is more accurately one hundred twenty thousand and that now includes twenty five thousand who are "big" salaried managers and corporate people who are not qualified to receive this bonus. They are giving this tax reform bonus to the "little" folk who are actually doing the lifting and daily work, instead of those doing the deciding and sitting.
