How did you find this forum?

Random surfing/link clicking.  I end up in the oddest places by doing that sometimes. ;)  I think it went something like:  a parenting site I frequent -> an autistic woman's blog -> autistics.org -> their forums -> here.  I end up in the oddest places by doing that sometimes. ;)

What led up to your son's diagnosis?

Well, I had noticed for a while that he had some behaviors I hadn't seen in my daughter, like repetitive play, lining up toys, etc. and he wasn't talking.  I wasn't sure it was anything to be concerned about, but then my mother-in-law pointed out his lack of eye contact, and it finally clicked that autism would explain a lot.  So I did some internet research, contacted a developmental pediatrician and Early Intervention and we were off into that rat race.  Actually, it was a pretty short journey for us comparatively.  About 4 months from my first suspicions of autism to diagnosis.

I think so, once, years ago.  I'm not much of a movie person.  Would you recommend I see it again?   ;)

Did you get those Early Intervention people who came to your house to check on you and the little ones and talk with you about the next phases they would go through?  I got some when my daughter was born, but then we moved when she was around three months old and we didn't get them here.

Yes you should see it again. I doubt you remember it well since you said I think so.

Word of caution, my mom did that to.  Things are not always what they appear, even people with doctoral degrees can make mistakes, although hard. Oh well, if people want me to have a dx, if I need to, I will pretend I do.  I did ask them to stop, about a thousand times.

Lets not talk about about my dx, with your hyperfocus bullshit.  I don't even see anyone no more, not even a clinical social worker.

Just remember that usually there is something worse to deal with, my mom for instance, is alot more tough to deal with than aspie on here.  Bipolar disorder sucks.

Ohh yeah, what are those people called?  Parents as Teachers?  We got them when he was born, because he was a preemie.  They weren't very helpful though.  Early Intervention was better, they go by different names in different places, like First Steps, or Birth to 3 or whatever.  They coordinate all the OT and ST and whatnot.

Yeah, I was being a little silly, but I do have that Blockbuster program that mails you DVDs  every month, and my list is getting short, so I'll pop Benny and Joon on there.  :)   I haven't been to Spokane because I don't like to fly.  I pretty much only go places I can drive in a day.

AllDayGlowRandy, you're confusing me.  What gives you the impression that a mistake has been made in my son's dx?  And where did I imply I think it's something bad?  Of course there's a billion things out there worse to deal with than autism!   A label gets services, that's how the system works where I live, so a label he has.  That's all.

Dang no Spokane. I love that place but the funny thing is when I am there, I see all the Benny & Joon locations I know and after doing everything I have wanted to do, I don't know what else to do in the city so I end up leaving and then the next day I miss it all over again and want to go back. Two days there is plenty for me.

Would you ever like to visit Spokane?

AllDayGlowRandy is like a pet that isn't quite housebroken. We like it when he waggles his tail and doesn't bark at the neighbour's cat (or car, or kids, or the fat lady that visits, or the mailman, or the pizza delivery boy, or...) but that little quirk gets bloody annoying after a while.

Hmm...I've heard good things about San Franicisco, and I have some online friends there.  Disney World was fun, I hope to take my kids some day, it'd be cool to share that experience with them.  Of course both run into that nasty flying problem again, but I guess I'd either take an extra day or 2 to drive there.

Only in the fall winter and spring. But Spokane gets lot of snow in the winter. I love it.

I don't like snow either.  lol  Well, I like playing in it, not driving in it.

Flourescent lights don't bother me like they seem to bother some apsies/autistics, but I can't say I like them.  I prefer "regular" lightbulbs, sunlight, candlelight, etc.

I'll look up the distance to Spokane and get back to you.  Over 1000 miles, I'm sure.

Have you been in an aeroplane before?

Yes, I flew to Las Vegas and back.  Vegas was very enjoyable, the flights were not.  Too many people in too small of a space!

It was better than grade school.  More people= more diversity=I stuck out slightly less as an oddball, and had more choices of who to make friends with.  Wouldn't call it one of the best times of my life though.

How often do you hear the fluorescent lights bzzing or humming?

Rarely...only if the room is otherwise very very quiet.  As to why I prefer other kinds of light...everything looks worse in flourescent light, in ways that are hard for me to explain.  It's too harsh.  It makes colors and contrasts pop too much.  It seems unnatural.

I'm not much of a crier, I tend to get angry and rant endlessly instead.   >:D   But the ending of Lilo and Stitch (son's current favorite movie) is starting to get me crying every time.  The whole bit about "this is my family.  I found it.  It's small, and kind of broken, but still good...yeah...still good." (or something to that effect)   :'(  It's just so sweet!

And to answer the original question--yes, "bouts" seem about right.  It's not a constant second tri thing, but there are definitely days!  Of course the logistic start getting increasingly interesting, but a good collection of pillows can solve most problems.

What ends next week?  Your second trimester?

Trying different positions can help with the big belly logistics.  As my big belly got bigger, my husband worried more about possibly hurting the baby, though.

My brother and sister-in-law could not do anything after she was four or five months because she started dilating then and they really would have hurt the baby.

Yes, I'll be 26 weeks on Friday.  Well, I guess that makes it 2 weeks until the second tri ends, hmm?  Depends on how you count.

I've had "early onset" pre-eclampsia twice (early onset being before 34 weeks), and they think this is due to a couple blood clotting disorders I just found out I have during this pregnancy.  Got me shooting up with anti-coagulants every day.  Fun fun.

Yes.  lol   Polyamorous in theory, but thus far in practice it's pretty much just been open.  Take 2 socially awkward people in a conservative area of the country and you end up with not a whole lot of prospects, ya know?

You have my sympathy I had to inject myself with heparin twice a day throughout all 3 of my pregnancies (although thankfully only for the last 6 weeks and 6 weeks after labour) it wasn't nice.   Do they have you going in for regular blood tests?

Why are you high risk?

I've had "early onset" pre-eclampsia twice (early onset being before 34 weeks), and they think this is due to a couple blood clotting disorders I just found out I have during this pregnancy.  Got me shooting up with anti-coagulants every day.  Fun fun.

You have my sympathy I had to inject myself with heparin twice a day throughout all 3 of my pregnancies (although thankfully only for the last 6 weeks and 6 weeks after labour) it wasn't nice.   Do they have you going in for regular blood tests?

Youch, all 3 pregnancies?  You're braver than I am! This is our last baby, partially because I'm having such a hard time (mentally) with the injections.   And I won't have to start the twice a day until 4 weeks before my due date and they promised me pills instead of shots for the 6 weeks after!   I'm doing a CBC at pretty much every doctor's visit right now, so about every 4 weeks, give or take.   So far, so good.

I didn't enjoy my last pregnancy all that much either- it was at a tough time in my life- so we won't be having any more kids.   I could have had pills once they were born but unfortunately I was told if you breastfeed its better to stick with the injections.

I hope everything continues to go well for you both.  :)

See, I keep getting conflicting information on whether the Coumadin or Lovenox/heparin is safer for breastfeeding.  I guess I need to do some independent research on that, because that's an issue I won't compromise on.  If it has to be injections, it will be.

From what I can tell it seems that most of the research suggests that the Warfarin is considered safe for breastfeeding now, my youngest child was  4 last week so its likely that the advice I was given (that I had to continue with heparin injections if I wanted to breastfeed) is out of date.  I'd agree that doing some research yourself would probably be a good idea, at least then you'll feel sure about the treatment you decide to take.

My sister had to have those injections for her last pregnancy (she is currently doing IVF to get pregnant again).
I think she called it lupus anticoagulant factor. I am not quite sure.

Yep, lupus anticoagulant is what I have too.  Which is just an odd name, since only something like 10% of the people who have it actually have lupus.

No, it's not, my real name is much more boring.  It's a name I used for one of my characters in World of Warcraft.  Yep, I'm a big geek.   :)

Are you open with your friends and family about your relationship?  Do you ever find that people judge you because of it?

Not really with our families, no.  My mom and Mordok's parents are very religious, so this would NOT go over well with them.  My mom does have a clue...she knows we go to PrideFest and that prior to this pregnancy, I'd occasionally hang out at the lesbian bars with my lesbian friends.  Oh, and we have gay/bi pride bumperstickers.  But I don't think the concept of "open relationship" has ever occured to her.  She just thinks I'm going to leave Mordok for a woman, like a friend of hers did.   I suppose down the road, if we end up in more of a long term relationship with a person or couple, then things will have to be said, but we haven't gotten there yet.

Friends definitely know.  Since I'm perfectly fine having just a small circle of friends, I tend to chose those open-minded enough to be ok with my choices, even if they don't necessarily "get" them, ya know?   I don't find a lot of out and out judgement, just occasional misunderstandings or incorrect assumptions.

We're not really open with our families, but then I think since its about our sex life I don't see why its any of their business.

I think the most irritating assumption we come across is the idea that if we have other sexual partners it must mean that one of us can't satisfy the other sexually.  There was only one person that said we were hypocrites to get married if we wanted an 'open' relationship.  (I hate the term open relationship, but poly doesn't quite fit either).

Exactly.  Right now, since a lot of it is about sex, well, my family doesn't need to know.   "Open relationship" is definitely a weird term, but we're somewhere between swingers and poly, so what are you gonna call it?

I think the assumption comes from some people being hard-wired for monogamy and some people not so much.  It can be hard for one side to understand the other.

i understand. i understand monogamy and i understand polygamy. i fall in love all the time. i don't need to pursue those interests but if i met someone and liked them and wanted to fuck them i'd feel it was my right to do so as long as the person i was with knew. but i understand being with someone exclusively because you love them more than anyone else ever... whatever you want to do, do so. life is for living. do what you will, harm none.

Yeah, I hear you.  I understand both sides on an intellectual level, but maybe not as much on an emotional level, if that makes sense.  I don't judge either as "right" or "wrong", just what works for me and what doesn't.  But that's just me.

it means you put up with people you don't understand. if people want to embrace people who are different than them then that's great. but tolerance is the minimum requirement.

Yeah, that'd be it.  Had they stopped there, they'd have just ended up on the massive "dislike" list.  Plenty of parents pull that crap, mine included.  When it persists into adulthood and starts affecting the grandkids, now we've got a whole new ballgame.

You sound rude because it's generally considered to be a rude question.  Then again, when have Aspies followed the rules of polite society?  :P

But if I'm to say I'm not ashamed of my body, I better put my money where my mouth is, eh?  247.5 pounds according to my scale this morning.  According to my ultrasound this afternoon, 2lbs 11oz of that is directly attributable to the small person currently residing in my uterus.  ;)

Nah, I'm pretty sure I'm fat even for an American.  It rarely bothers me though.

My guess is baby will be between 8 and 9 pounds, and I probably will not be having a natural birth.  I would very much like to, but I've got a fairly complex medical history that makes it unlikely.
