Title: Stephen Hawking has died.
Post by: "couldbecousin" on March 13, 2018, 11:25:21 PM
I will miss him, even though everything he talked about was over my head.  Rest in peace.  :'(

Hopefully he had his dream come true of travelling to the edge of the event horizon of a black hole.

RIP Stephen.

(I bet the TV show, Big Bang Theory will do a special episode about him).

Damn, what awful news.

A  brilliant man, I hope he gets to go out there and poke around in some  black holes as a ghost.

R.I.P Stephen Hawking.

This  is such a tragic, tragic loss, not only to his family but to the whole of mankind.

He will be sorely missed, for his contributions to science, for his sheer genius, and for the way he has  managed to present a highly complex, deep set of scientific concepts in cosmology and quantum physics in a way that can be eaten and digested by the uninitiated, the layman who is interested but who isn't also an extremely competent mathematician (me for one, being dyscalculic as fuck. How it was that nature ever intended me to be born to be a (bio/)chemist and psychopharmacologist, never mind take an interest in particle and quantum physics, I really, really will never know. Well, I suppose  I can put it down to a very healthy dose of autism, but otherwise I really haven't got and  never will have a clue how. Its like nature one day supervening and plotting out the destiny of a new manatee calf to strike out and become a champion kickboxer. Not QUITE that likely or naturally fitted out for the job, mind you, but autie affinity and autie sheer bloodymindedness and determination to look 'unlikely mix' in the face and hawk a loogie in its eye, poke it in the other eye before grabbing unlikely by the hair, bringing it's  nose to my trouser area and letting loose with a gust of sulfurous, acrid, paintstripperesque gaseous fumes)

He managed to render things like the mechanics of black holes (sorry gopher not that kind, ew) accessible to the likes of me, someone that can't dispense with chemistry calculating software for doing what it is I do. And  fostering an interest in physics for a great many people, to say nothing of being pretty much an iconic figure for disabled people who stand (or wheel themselves around in a motorized chair with eye movements) tall and tell their issues and problems to take a back seat to who they really are and what they are worth.

RIP.Personally I am pretty displeased with the powers that be for denying him a nobel prize in his lifetime. He's more than earned one, probably several times over with change.

He said something like when you die, you're like a computer shutting down - nothing happens afterwards. I don't think that's a popular view about what happens when you die with many people but I believe it.

I don’t especially care. Hawking lived an unusually long time for what he had though.

I met someone years ago who said he believes that death is just "Lights out."

Oddly enough, he was "in touch with God,"
he just didn't think that relationship would continue after this life.  :apondering:

I wonder if the relationship with god was two-way, heh.

Kinda surprising how steve irwin died wasn't it? I mean, you'd expect him to have kicked the bucket after ending up savaged by a venomous snake, or maybe have his head  ripped off by a crocodile, but to step on a stingray and have it drive it's tail barb straight through his heart? damn. Stingrays aren't generally aggressive, unless stepped on, and even when someone gets stung it doesn't  usually kill them. That was serious bad fucking luck.

I like how he has obviously imparted his love for the natural world to bindi irwin too, his younger daughter.

And what the fuck is michael jackson doing there? although I suppose he was a freakish specimen that wouldn't be out of place in australia, at least if they didn't kick him out for being a paedo, and providing his face didn't start melting and sliding down his skull in a river in the shitty AUS weather.

Myself and Hawking would not have seen eye to eye.  I don't go in for the veneration element mainly because of my fundamental disagreement with his Weltanschauung.

I know all the people in that pic including Harambe.

What I don't get is why Kimbo Slice is in that pic.   :dunno:

It's a stupid  pic without any sense!  Hawking deserves better than being associated with those losers!

Just to the right of the plastic paedo, that looks nastily like gary glitter. Is it?

The only one I can make out who I'd agree with appearing there is Irwin.

Am thinking maybe everyone the people in the photo had earned the reference of being called the king of something. Ali was the king of boxing, prince and Jackson both called king of pop, Mays promoted the ding king  or was at least the king of infomercials, kimbo slice was called the king of web brawlers, harambe's death was compared to the movie king kong, not sure about the others,.
