I've long thought that that should be done here actually, mostly for the same reasons. Here however its almost certain that even if someody did have a gun, if it was seen, caught on camera, shell casings tracked down by fingerprints/DNA etc somebody using it to heroically take down a cell of ragheads on the rampage and prevent them killing any more people would get hunted down after, they would still go after whover it was for possession. Christ, they have even dragged little old ladies through the courts after their now-dead husband'd WWII service revolver was found, and punished, too, told they were very lucky the judge wasn't sentencing them to a jail term. And I would bet money almost, that if it ever happened that an old relic handgun from such a source wa ever used by another such little old lady, they would be jailed when instead they ought to be feted and rewarded, if they had a terrorist attack happen nearby and say, put a couple of holes in a few camelfucker heads and stopped the attack outright.
Our so-called government is by far too gutless, empty-headed, soulless and cowardly ever to stop themselves doing their best to crush any possibility of resistance by ill-treated populations, IMO they WANT the population defenseless, certainly against themselves and those acting in their name, but it wouldn't surprise me much if they saw it as losing their useful source of fear, uncertainty and doubt to sow amongst the populace. Bunch of spineless whorebegotten bastards we have infesting the corridors of power, who are unfit to have power over so much as a pet dog, let alone a fucking nation.
