Title: $250k fine for not using gender neutral pronouns.
Post by: Yuri Bezmenov on May 20, 2016, 02:16:37 AM
New York City just went full retard. You can now be fined $250k for failure to use whatever made-up pronouns that super sensitive snowflakes demand they be called by.  :zombiefuck:

When will this PC madness end??

Transgender pronouns are difficult to adapt to using, and not even sure how standardized or well known they are. Only have ever heard of ze for he/she, and hir for him/her, but don't know what is used for his/hers. Hir also sounds like the word, here, which is messy. It's a bad choice of sound. Using pronoun preferences is usually easy enough, but would probably just always refer to a person by their name if they preferred transgender pronouns.

It's not really insane. Leaving out the point of gender identity, if I started referring to one of the men at work with female pronouns, it would probably be considered harassment in the workplace. Not sure what to think about the landlord thing, though; that seems odd.

Whatever happened to just using the word "they"?

They/them would work. Would probably sound really weird sometimes. Though maybe not as weird as saying a person's name over and over.

Gender neutral pronouns are a necessity that we have too long ignored.  My understanding is that most languages have these.  I can't tell you how fucking sick and tired I am of writing "he or she" in legal documents.

You could simply switch to Finnish. There is no gender differentiation of the third person pronoun in Finnish.

The sub dialect of the village I grew up in has only the equivalent for he and his. Works for both males and females. There are no words for she and her.

Funny, I had noticed it as a kid, but was raised in a little different dialect. Thought it was weird people had no idea when to use her and she. Found out after I left home that it was a particular thing of the dialect in that small area.

This makes me wonder about Punjabi, the native language of a cab driver who often drives me.
He tends to say "he" when he really means "it" or "they."  I wonder what Punjabi pronouns are like.  :apondering:

Yes, it makes sense.

There is one for "it", though, used for animals and inanimate objects. In Finnish slang and some more sloppy dialects, it's also used when referring to people.

You may refer to me as "the entity known as Icequeen" in your will. ;)

I agree we need something neutral, just not 6-10 somethings. I have enough problems remembering a persons first and last name, let alone whether they prefer Mr., Miss, Mrs, Ms, Ze, or Hir.

Good luck trying to get anyone to agree on what though :-\
I have a real hard time with names also and a lot of times avoid the issue by avoiding names  using 'hey you'  :green:

Remember a few years back when "hu" was being pushed as the answer to this gender nuetral pronoun dilemma?

Actually removed a post about Hu being messy in language like Hir, but looked it up and Hu is pronounced like Hue, not who, so maybe not as messy after all. The Z sound is the better and could be used for all.
