No, the latest picture is from a mine area in upstate New York. The Herkimer Diamond Mines. They are NOT real diamonds, but, the quartz crystals that have come out of the mine are renowned for their clarity and quality. We were there a week ago and we all found some really nice sparkly crystals. SHINY!!!!! :zoinks: It's open to tourists and professional rock hounds. You pay a fee and you can keep what you find.

My former name was "ozymandias", I left 5 years ago or so because of an issue with someone who is not here anymore and since she isn't, I prefer to let that story remain in the past. I just basically got super pissed off and had my account deleted. I joined soon after I2 was started and left once before, I was persuaded to come back by said person until the big rift. I had been considering coming back for some time, off and on, it was the return of Lord of the Ales that gave me the incentive to return for the third time. Especially when ASD community folded. I thought "What the Hell", I'm not emotionally invested as I was before.
That's all I can think of for now.

Those forums either ended like The Drivel and ASD community, or I left them like AFF and WP. Spectrumite, I lost interest in. This is the only forum I have ever had my account deleted by request.

The same happened to me at wp. I just could never get comfortable there. Of course being an old fogie might have been part of the problem. Though, I should add, my daughter never got into forums that well either. SHe joined around 10 and never posted much. :yawn:

mcmanslag has made a point of wanting a fight with me for years and his signature move is to be making catty comments when he doesn't get his way. He is also a self admitted sock puppet addict. I'm going to leave it at that and see what the future reveals. As for you, I'll keep you at arms length for awhile. I don't know you and I don't know if I trust you. Don't take it personally, but, there are very few people I trust here. Trust is earned, not something I give automatically any more. I am trying to be honest and diplomatic at the same time.......make of it what you will. My gut feelings have been more right than wrong.

Nah, there's no need for you to apologize to me. You and I have no reason to have any trust in each other and we probably never will. That's okay. In a way you're right because I'm a complete smartass around here and I absolutely do it on purpose, but I'm also sometimes misunderstood as having malicious intent and it does make me feel bad when people are somehow genuinely angered or personally offended by anything I say. That's why the persona of a rodent suits me well, I'm a harmless nuisance of no real importance to anyone here, but still cute. :green:

Any places to collect iron ore near you, I have looked a bit around here in Ct but most places are either private property or state parks where collecting is not permitted. Part of the problem is the quantity I am after, a minimum of 50 pounds. I need it for a project I have wanted to do for awhile now, a Link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomery) to smelt iron the way they did in colonial days.

Thanks, further is fine anything up your way is a special trip anyway another hour don't matter much. I read up more on the CTDEP web site and they will not even give you a special permit to collect unless your a school or such. :plus:

I know that the earliest iron works in New England was located near salt marshes/bogs. I believe there is even an old preserved foundry on or around Bath Iron Works in Maine. There are areas up in the White Mountains which must have a fair amount of iron, since many of the streams and the stream beds have a rusty or oxidized look to them. When I was a kid I used to imagine that these were metal rocks because of the rust patina on them.
