It just occurred to me that rather than receive blood transfusions of youthful blood, it is more likely the elderly will seek bone marrow transplants. To achieve quality results with least risk they would likely just clone themselves and use their clone's marrow (and possibly stem cells too). There would be entire clone-races, enslaved and maintained in stasis labs, harvested for their organs and tissue. Until one day something would go wrong...perhaps a solar flare of unanticipated magnitude interferes with the clone-lab security systems and the specimens awaken.....

It would not surprise me, if in 15 years, people harvest stemcells in youngsters, to save them for replacements, if need be. And that the needed organs just can be grown, without needing a human body.

I wonder what the ethic debate will be, when it comes to brain-tissue, and I wonder if that would be possible at all.

Indeed, and it will not be invasive for new-borns to have the blood from the umbilical cord taken either. Can be an easy standard procedure.

It will bring interesting questions, gene-therapy in new grown organs will be an option. Will that weaken the human species as a whole? And if so, is that a bad thing, with the current technologies?
And what if there are brain options? The mind boggles.

It is a sad fact that a lot of the current research is hampered by Christian decision-makers.

Not saying that the pharmaceutical industry doesn't need to be controlled, btw. All you have to do is to take a look at Pfizer or Eli Lily.

Regarding stem cells:  I recently saw an article in a magazine at a friend's house that describes an
exciting new breakthrough.  If I understand it correctly, some researchers have found a way to take adult cells from almost
any organ and turn them back into stem cells.  I will try to find the article again.  If true, this is wonderful news.  :)

From my understanding, the most successful results in stem cell based treatments have come from adult cells taken directly from the patient receiving the treatment.

This may be outdated info, but I recall hearing somewhere that the stem cell research ban in the USA also applied to stem cells taken from the umbilical chord, or anywhere else. I remember the researcher saying that their research was limited to private institutions and that the government would have to change their blanket ban on stem cell research soon.

I wonder if they have changed that law yet to allow exceptions at the very least, or if it still bans any and all stem cell related research.

*I feel like I was a bit redundant...could probably cut down that response....but too lazy lol

Ah, looks like US gov't lifted the ban for federal funding of stem cell research.

March 9 2009-
Quote from: President Obama
"Today, with the Executive Order I am about to sign, we will bring the change that so many scientists and researchers; doctors and innovators; patients and loved ones have hoped for, and fought for, these past eight years: we will lift the ban on federal funding for promising embryonic stem cell research. We will vigorously support scientists who pursue this research. And we will aim for America to lead the world in the discoveries it one day may yield."

The entire organ farming in clones idea really made me think of the Dune scifi series, and the Tleilaxu race, with their 'ghola' cloned replacement bodies, grown in 'axolotl tanks' which end up being found out as the degenerate females of the race,  being used as breeding machines for cloned bodies.

 :apondering:

Some version of that is probably taking place...

On a related note...did you hear about the Australian couple who abandoned their downs son to a Thai surrogate?-- but they took his healthy twin sister. Apparently they were going to terminate the pregnancy when they found out he had downs, but the Thai lady wouldn't because it was against her religious beliefs. She offered to keep the boy and the couple came and took the girl, but then they wanted the boy when they saw him- but the Thai lady didn't believe them and was convinced they were going to institutionalise the boy. She wouldn't let them take him, and almost kept the girl as well---she didn't trust them to keep them safe. Well, the couple went back to australia with the girl and didn't contact the lady for 6 months. Then the medical costs were too much so I guess the lady went to the news to appeal for help for the boy because the aussie parents didn't want him and she could barely afford to support her family even before the surrogacy.

Anyways both side appear to be changing stories- in one report the aussie parents said they had no knowledge of the boy. then they went on to say they would have had the pregnancy terminated and only kept the deal because the surrogate offered to keep the boy.

then they said they never gave up on the boy. but that was only after they saw him. and after they left thailand they didn't contact the mom for 6 months, and only contacted a rep once.

the thai mother change her story from saying they saw the boy and abandoned him, to that she wanted to keep him because she believed they would institutionalise him. she also says they asked her to have an abortion which she wouldn't do for religious reasons.  :dunno:

I'm honestly more inclined to believe the Thai lady because the aussie parents DID abandon the boy when they would have had the pregnancy terminated, and then again when they agreed to let her keep the boy (that gave them "hope" apparently). Give that behaviour, I think it is reasonable to try and protect the kid by keeping him away from them.

Conspiracy theories are interesting.

They are fun, but the nut jobs that entertain them are even funnier.

They're not all completely absurd.

I've heard a conspiracy theory that one of our past presidents conspired to cover up a break-in at the Watergate office complex.

No, there are some more plausible ones. But for every plausible one there's probably two dozen ridiculous ones. Benji, for example, wouldn't know a plausible one even if it hit him in the head.

Which, by the way, is a good idea, generally speaking.

Now, that's just too unbelievable to be true. It's a bit like claiming a US president had sex with an intern.

No, there are some more plausible ones.

I still think it's plausible that LBJ was behind the JFK assassination.

It's just too suspicious that Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby and a few others, associated with the same people who associated with LBJ.

There's probably more to the JFK assassination than Lee Harvey Oswald, but I don't think LBJ was involved.
