Title: Waiting room reading material, or other ways provided to bide your time.
Post by: 'andersom' on May 10, 2013, 03:55:23 PM
When I was a kid, and doctors worked without appointments, my doctor had a HUGE fish tank, and some car magazines in his waiting room. I never got bored there, the fish tank was awesome.

But, most waiting rooms are terribly annoying. The same doctor and car magazine, where-ever you go. And some five year old vogues or so. Glossies with sturdy glossy backs, that can endure fiddling bored fingers. And that have no pleasant content at all.

There are exceptions. At my dentist, I tell myself off for not bringing my reading glasses. And, today I went to my GP. The old one has left, the younger is in charge now. The first thing to notice was the difference in the waiting room. He had put in a bookshelf, with good books in it. And, if you are interested in a book, you can borrow it. You can bring it back when you are finished. You're allowed to just drop in to borrow a book too. If you have books yourself that you have read and do not want to keep, you can donate them too.
I took a book home.  :2thumbsup:

I've got a phone almost from the prehistory. There is no entertaining value in that one at all.

What a great idea for a waiting room!  PA and I always have something to read with us.

Hmmmm.  A  :mischief: thought just occurred to me.  We should carry matching books of the Kama Sutra with us.  That should set some tongues wagging.

Same crap every one I go to.

A couple well-worn copies of Better Homes & Gardens about 2 years old.
Parenting magazine.
A few god awful women's fashion magazines with perfume ads or a lingering odor.
Newsweek, Time, or some sports magazines.

I play games on my phone. :P

Funny you should mention Sonic.  There's one about 10 blocks from our house.  Went there this evening.  The shakes are half-priced after 8 p.m. this month.  Enjoyed my usual pineapple shake.

I found a magazine that was over ten years old at my daughters old doctors office.  When I go I like to bring my own reading materials if I remember or I bring my work note book and do paperwork

When I'm in the waiting room I'm checking out to see if there are any hot people waiting around. If there is I Immeadiatley check out to see if they are packing. yes/no then, I fantasize about them without them knowing it. I wont touch those nasty magazines they have in the waiting room because damn are they gross. I can see the germs crawling around those water damaged puffed up magazines. Yuck :P

I don't suppose anyone has come across a waiting room that stocked "Surgery for Dummies" or "The Idiots Guide to the Operating Room" have they?   :zombiefuck:

That would make observing people in the waiting room so much more fun.

* thinks on getting copies of that, to place in waiting rooms *

The closest I've come is my therapist's waiting room. She has books full of funny doctor's journal notes. They are hilarious, but I bet they weren't intended to be waiting room reading.

I don't touch the magazines at my GP's because germs. Don't know who has had their hands on them. Sometimes I bring my Kindle if I have something I want to read on it but most of the time I have a book or my phone.

Intensity is pretty small on my phone but I wrote a post about the weather on it today.

Kayleigh was just saying she should have brought her Switch when her doctor called her in.
