What is it?

A hand crafted MAGIC staff! Well as magic as something can get, anyway. I've made it out of the finest materals I could find, and meticulously shaved the pith off with razors, sanded it to the smoothness of a baby's ass, and cooked the fungus and bacteria out of the core of it, then gave it a high gloss stain finish.

I'm just trying to figure out how to set zodiac stones in it without weakening the wood.

Well I don't see how pork could cause that unless it had parasites in it, so I don't think he made the boy sick. Sounds like your uncle is a freeloader to me, though. Might be hard to get rid of him now. If your cat is peeing on the carpet, it means he is really upset about something, and that makes sense since he appears to be sick. Perhaps he swallowed something he shouldn't have?

I think he can poo fine. It was the pee that was the probem. He stayed overnight, so they would have caught it if he couldn't poo. I'm glad Boy is home now.

And, on diet food after this, because he may be prone to get them. You got him there in time, for cats not being able to pee can be lethally toxic very soon.

Did they operate on him, or have they "just" made sure the stones passed?

I think they said it was a urinary tract  infection. His penis was inflamed. Poor little guy. I change his water constantly and yes he is on a diet now. My poor baby.

Stick to the diet food, make sure he doesn't eat anything else, apart from what he catches on life food outside, if he happens to be an outdoor cat.
And be aware, the diet food is very rich, so he doesn't have to eat much of it. If that is a problem for him, you can ask for diet food with more "bulk" in it next time.
Make sure every one makes George keep his diet. Vets are less and less inclined to treat multiple stone infections in cats, because the operating treatment is so hard on cats.

With a diet, things can go really well though. My male cat had the same, a few months after I got him. He's now as fit as a fiddle. Though, he does put himself at risk, snatching food from the neighbours. It is good that winter is coming. Less open doors, time for him to loose weight and stick completely to his diet again.
My vet was less expensive, luckily.

George is a greedy little vacuum and my mom has fed him just to shut him up. I tried to convince her to buy wet food, but he insisted we "couldn't afford" wet food. We could if she could have learned to ignore the whining for extra food. She always whines at me to get them off her back when she trained them it is "ok" to beg for food. They know they can get food out of her.
Title: Re: All the rage: ask beoulve!
Post by: 'andersom' on November 16, 2013, 07:15:05 AM
Wet food often contains a lot of water and wrong salts. Sirius is on a dry food diet. Diet especially for the bladder and urinal tract. Now he is on a "containment" diet. Before he was on a way more strict medical diet. The diet would solve the stones in his bladder. And, he got pain medication to make peeing less painful. Now the same solving stuff is still in the food, but, not as concentrated as before. Catching sparrows and mice will not do him any harm.

If your mum keeps spoiling George, and the problem reoccurs, the vet will probably tell you that putting down George will be the most cat friendly option.  :-\

Very likely.

Does he have to eat diet wet food, or just wet food?

Sirius was put on Royal Canin urinary s/o for the first two months.

I think either or. The vet said wet food is far less calories than dry and George needs lots. Of water.

I think they said it was a urinary tract  infection.
Mom used to have a cat with this recurring problem, and the vet said it's common in cats and drinking more water will help. Cats are likely to drink more if they have running water available rather than a stagnant bowl, so he suggested a fountain cat bowl. Just something to consider.

Though it's hard to know how an animal will react to something new in their environment, so having both available in the beginning is probably a good idea.

Processed food of any kind is bad for pussy cats. They naturally eat whole animals and that includes bone and offal. In the old days butchers would sell pet meat, the tough bits people don't like. Dogs and cats who ate that were much healthier than today's pets who eat processed nastiness.

I'll usually be working with smaller animals like the ones people keep in their houses, but there will be periodic calls to farms in the area where i'll live when i'm finished with school for cattle births, injured horses, etc.

Its a bachelors. It'll take about six years once I get a fairly decent savings. I'll still have to work during though. Simply can't afford full time classes these days.

Are you going to be a speciality vet? Such as Avian or all kinds of animals?

I'll usually be working with smaller animals like the ones people keep in their houses, but there will be periodic calls to farms in the area where i'll live when i'm finished with school for cattle births, injured horses, etc.
What kind of degree?  How many years will it take total?

Its a bachelors. It'll take about six years once I get a fairly decent savings. I'll still have to work during though. Simply can't afford full time classes these days.
Will the bachelor's fully qualify you to work with animals, or will it be a beginning?  Is the path to be a full-blow veterinarian or a vet tech or something in between?

Its an in between kind of thing. Its kind of like the difference between a doctor and a nurse practicioner in people medicine.  Most of my money will come from being a zookeeper. Most of my satisfaction will come from providing medical care to animals as a vet tech.
