Title: What is Intensity? - According to Nomaken
Post by: Nomaken on November 17, 2006, 02:01:38 AM
We've been kicking around some ideas in the admin forum and well... I'm unofficially saying that the admins have decided that intensity has no official position on what intensity is, or what its purpose is.  The closest thing to it is the opinions of its members.

And here is mine:

Intensity is a forum.  On that forum you are free to post whatever you want(with the exception of shit which violates the contract we made with our server, you know, child porn, ect) without fear of deletion or censorship.

Besides that, we guarantee nothing.

You mean freedom with a few exceptions. Don't You.

What few exceptions?  The exceptions are nothing which violates the contract with our host, which is a damn few things.

Intensity should be equal parts freedom of speech and Asperger's, not one placed over the other but ideally we should strive for an exact 50-50 split  IMHO

How can that happen?

Well you can write your own definition of intensity.  I've stated my opinion on what intensity is above.  That is why the title of the thread is What is intensity? Dash According to Nomaken.

Isn't it a little ridiculous for every single member to have their own thread about what Intensity should be?

It's what Intensity is to them not what it should be IMHO. I don't see anything stupid about that.

No.  They can if they want to, if not, they aren't required to.  I made this because I totally fuckin' disagree with what mcjaggers definition(that he posted when intensity began, im under the impression his views have changed at least slightly) of intensity is.  I think we're a freedom of speech site at our core.  I think that we have a lot of ASD people here is purely coincidental.  We don't have 10 thousand posts discussing the various aspects of AS or autism or our difficulties with it like WP does, we mostly fuck around and have fun.  We are here because what we said on WP got censored, or deleted, or we were banned for saying certain things.  Therefore this site is essentially a place where people cannot be forcibly censored, their posts deleted without permission, or banned for expressing unpopular opinions or ideas.  The fact that we have a high ASD population is only because we were spawned from a ASD site.  We welcome NT's here, we welcome everyone here.  So we are not inherently an ASD site.

Also this was made because we've sort of decided that intensity has no official stance on what it is, or what it is for.  Intensity has no inherent purpose that we strive to maintain and uphold.  So the only thing that controls what it is, and what it is for is what people want intensity to be, their wishes and opinions, so anyone who wants to state an opinion on what intensity is can do so.

I say that intensity is a forum where you are free to post anything you want(that doesn't violate the contract we have with our host) without fear of censorship, deletion, or banning.

And I say that because that is the most basic true thing it is.  It might also be true that we have a lot of ASD people here, but we aren't an ASD only site, and there might be an area on this site where we try to be kind to people who are having a tough time, but we don't have rules about not being cruel there, we aren't mandating a haven, and we might support open debate to solve problems, but the conclusions of those arguments don't change anything, and we don't even have to answer a call out, so we aren't necessarily a debate forum.  All those things are things that CAN happen on Intensity, they aren't some official intricate sacred part of it.

I'll bet mine was bigger. It came out panting and could barely crawl. I let it recover for a moment then called it 'attention'. It saluted me and I returned the salute and dismissed it promptly. It was at a dead run when it turned the corner and never looked back.

Only, right at first. They change so fast at that age. You  just have to wish them the best, shove them out and turn your back.

That avatar was created by an old timer WP member, Prometheus IIRC, but I might be wrong. Pyraxis or PMS Elle might remember.
