Here are a couple that live near me. The first one looks like mine only younger. I took this picture when I was taking my dog for a walk, which is why she looks like she's shittin' it  :zoinks:

The black and white one is fucking gorgeous - I sat in the road playing with her for about half an hour once. She's really soft and friendly.

And here's my cat Flo
We both look kinda retarded in this picture, but whatever  :zombiefuck:

Pretty much the most affectionate animals there are. You just gotta know how to "talk" to them.

Poco did that too. I guess while she was staring at people, she was actually watching them. She also wanted to eat at the table after watching me do it, so I set her up a booster. She liked to sit in the chair and lap the food off a plate with everyone else.

JonJon, my baby. He's 18 now, this was taken when he was about 15 or so. (I enhanced the red color a bit fyi.)

Sunny, my younger cat (8 yo). I call her my Little Shit, because she's incredibly curious and manages to get into everything.

This was Sugar, my other cat. She had to be put to sleep this last February due to a very rapid cancer. She was almost 15. This pic is of her in my lap at the vet, saying goodbye. We had a little room and she laid on my lap for about 45 minutes until I felt like it was time.

This is Liam, my mother's cat who used to be mine. When I still lived with my mother he was mine, but as he neared 1 year of age, we soon realized that he was a horrible bully of a cat and my other cat, JonJon, was starting to have a nervous breakdown, losing the fur on his tail because of Liam. So when I moved out, Liam had to stay. Here he is betwixt two teddy bears, sleeping. (He's an absolutely GORGEOUS cat btw. The silkiest black fur I've ever seen; he's a tuxedo cat, white paws, white chin, white whiskers. And he's also HUGE, not particularly overweight, just huge, weighing in at about 21 lbs. and with an incredible amount of muscle for a cat.)

My cat's sister Sootica had cancer and had to be put to sleep in January 2007
I dread the day my cat dies. She doesn't go out much so IK worry about if she'll get something similar and also have to be put to sleep - she's a really anxious cat when she's around people she doesn't know or in a scary place - she'd be terrified if I had to take her to the vets now :(

Thank you. It was very hard, especially because it was so sudden. For a week she'd had problems with nausea and not eating much. She'd had some very mild kidney problems for a couple years so originally we thought that was the problem, because higher creatinine levels (a byproduct of poor kidney function) have a tendency to create indigestion and nausea. I wasn't expecting anything like cancer.

That's really sad about Sugar :(
My cat's sister Sootica had cancer and had to be put to sleep in January 2007
I dread the day my cat dies. She doesn't go out much so IK worry about if she'll get something similar and also have to be put to sleep - she's a really anxious cat when she's around people she doesn't know or in a scary place - she'd be terrified if I had to take her to the vets now :(

Yeah, like I said, it was very hard because it was so sudden. One week she was normal, the next she was barely eating. I took her to the vets on a Friday, they checked her creatinine levels, which were a bit high. And she also apparently had a RAGING urinary tract infection; the vet said she had never seen a UTI so bad. With the kidney problems, Sugar had a tendency to get UTI's on occasion, but to have one so severe was confusing until we found out about the cancer later (the low T cell count made it near impossible for her to fight off the infection). But that day with the first vet visit, we went home with antibiotics and fluids just thinking it was a UTI. That was about midday. After we got home she had an INCREDIBLY fast decline, within hours. By midnight that night she was having trouble moving and keeping her balance, and she kept trying to pee and wasn't able to hold herself up in the litterbox. It was really bad. I had originally hoped she would be okay enough to make it through the night to take her back to our regular vets the next morning because they were more familiar and also LOADS cheaper than the emergency vet. But by midnight I knew that wasn't an option, having no idea by then what was going on. She was barely able to walk, couldn't keep anything down, and her breathing was incredibly shallow. So I brought her in and they ran various tests (blood panel, x-ray, echocardiogram, etc.). The doctor wasn't sure what was going on and wanted to wait to see her full blood panel which would be ready by morning. So they kept her there in order to give her fluids. I hated leaving her, but it was safer. Plus if she had an even greater turn for the worse, they would be able to put her to sleep so she wouldn't suffer more. They called the next morning and said that pretty much EVERYTHING was off the charts and that most likely that indicated Leukemia. There was one or two other possible causes but they were unlikely and not really treatable. So I decided that the best thing was to have her put to sleep and not put her through any sort of bone marrow biopsy just to confirm cancer. I went back later that day, brought a familiar blanket and they brought her in to me and I wrapped her all up in the blanket and just comforted her for about 45 minutes. Obviously when they brought her in she was upset because they had been poking and prodding her all night and she was in an unfamiliar place. But she took comfort in being with me. And I kept her there until I thought she had calmed down and was resting as comfortably and pleasantly as possible. I didn't let myself concentrate on my own sadness because animals can sense when you're upset and I didn't want her any more upset than she was given the situation. So I left my mourning and crying for after she was gone. Finally I decided it was time and asked my mother to go get the doctor and he came in and put her to sleep in my lap.

I didn't think about it, but when a creature dies, all its muscles relax. So of course, with Sugar sitting in my lap, she peed all over me when she died. The doctor apologized saying he'd forgotten to tell me. But no matter, I didn't want to move her. She was happy in my lap and that's how she died.

I think it feels worse for us, not being able to tell them everything's alright. But then, at the same time one can be glad they're probably not aware to have the thought, "Oh shit... am I dying???"

Sugar just went to sleep. All she knew was she felt like shit, but she was comfortable in my lap, and then... the lights went out.

Sometimes it sucks to be human and have awareness of mortality to the extent that we do.  :-\

Fuck that is so incredibly sad.  As Soph said, I'm glad you were able to be with her before her death.  I'm not sure what else to say  :-\  I'm not good with comforting people.

Yeah, I guess there's not much else to say. At least for the time she was my cat (I wasn't her first owner), I know she had a good life. And while she would have had a number more years ahead of her if it weren't for the cancer, she also didn't die young either. It was sudden, I don't think it was too painful for her (although I'm sure she felt like absolute shit), and in the end she died exactly where she always wanted to be, my lap, hehe. Sugar was one of the sweetest cats I've known. Strange in that she was the only cat who actually took comfort in being with me when she was at the vets. All my other cats just wanted to get away, hide, whatever. But Sugar, at the vets, would instead run TO ME and try and climb up into my arms and would just hug my shoulder. My other two cats, while I know they love me incredibly (as I do them) don't take quite the same comfort in my presence when they're scared; they just wanna get away. So when they go, I don't know if my presence will be quite the same to them as it was to Sugar. For JonJon and Sunny, it would probably be more comforting for them not to pass away at the vets and instead do it at home. I don't know if that'll be possible; some places do home visits. But to be home and with me would be more comforting to my other two. But Sugar, she just always wanted to be with me. So wherever my lap was, that was where she was happiest. To the end.

@Sophist: Thanks for posting your cat's pictures and stories. You were a good "mum" to Sugar and gave her the care she needed, right up to her final moments. And Liam is quite a bruiser; I can see he'd make life hell for the competition. :)

Thanks, and yes, Liam IS quite a bruiser!  ::) I feel sorry for my mother's other cat, Grace, because he now beats up on her. :( He's very sweet with people though. He really should have been an "only child" so to speak, heh.

They tested for feline leukemia and thankfully it ended up not being that, since it's contagious and wouldn't bode well for my other cats. This was just leukemia (most likely).

My cat Flo is the same as your other cats. When she's scared she just wants to get away too and hide. She's really affectionate though so it's weird because when she's relaxed and it's just us, she always wants to sit right near me or sleep on me or have cuddles. But when she's scared she just panics. That makes me worry about taking her to the vets too because she'll be so frightened and I won't know how to help her. I think it would be better for her to be at home too, but I doubt that will happen.

Yeah, my other two (when calm) are ALWAYS around me. If I'm in bed, they're in bed. If I'm at the computer, they're somewhere nearby if not trying to get into my lap. If I'm in the bathroom, well... ya know.

Yeah poco always followed me into the bathroom. She was especially fascinated ith the concept of me taking a shower. She used to get between the shower curtains and play the tag game while I took one.

Sweetie was fascinated every time I ran a bubble bath, until she fell in playing with the bubbles on the side of the tub. Bubbles are no longer fascinating now, bubbles are BAD.

Sunny, my younger cat, doesn't really like to get near the tub, but she prefers to sit on the sink and wait for me to finish showering. She also insists on being in the kitchen and helping me cook by continually rubbing against me and talking (she talks quite a lot and rather randomly; I suspect she has some Siamese in her background). You'd think I was cooking with catnip or something the way she acts when we're in the kitchen...

I love when cats talk :D

My Flo has such a beautiful voice. I think it's really cute when they do that thing where they're not actually meowing, but they make some sort of greeting if you walk in the room or speak to them after a period of silence. Like they're saying hello. It's fucking adorable  :)

Poco liked kitchen antics too, but she wanted to be on a chair so she could stand on it and look up on the counter. She wanted to be a part of the activity. She had to touch and smell the different ingredients, and she'd look up at me while doing it. Almost as if she was asking me what it was. Of course i'd tell her. Nobody can resist talking to cats.

Replace one problem with another. BRILLIANT.

We couldn't afford to look after two, so I sent one to my parents, she (Delta) likes it much better there anyways :)

I could soooo easily become the crazy cat lady. Not like a hundred cats, but like 5 of them. I'd love it. :green:

I know someone who has 12. Very, very well taken care of. But when it's feeding time and she starts opening the tins of cat food. ALL of the cats show up in the kitchen and line up. It's hysterical. It's like a sea of kitty fur.

I'm gonna be the crazy old cat lady too who's gonna live in an old abandoned train compartment, steal hearses and embarass herself in public, the rare few times she would go out to the shops to buy cat food.

One of the best cat videos ever made.

Love the language with sentences like:

Another activity that cats and humans can enjoy together is something called the "I'm not paying attention to you" game.

Thanks Ren. I would be lost without her. She follows me everywhere in the house and every night she sleeps on top of me. If I'm sleeping away from home, I don't sleep as well. But the moment i'm back, and she curls up on me, I instantly have a deep and restful sleep. I adore her. Plus she chirps on the phone to EBM.

As a pre teen only our cat could get me sleeping. He wasn't allowed upstairs, but once my parents found out that that would fix my insomnia, they let him come up with me and would pick him out of my bed half an hour later. He'd purr white noise in my ear  ;D .

Liam is good. He has gotten to be quite a big cat. When I looked after GA's place over Christmas, Liam was really good company. He talked a lot in his cat way. I miss him.

Yes, some more Jess pictures. :) She must have grown a fair bit since the last lot of pictures.

Has your mum got cats at her house? (you are at your mum's right?)

Today I made a new friend btw - a young tortoiseshell, although not like Flo and Delta, looked more lie a cross between a ginger and a black and white cat, rather than a calico.

She was really nice though and even let my nana pick me up. I was glad she came over to me when I tried to get her to approach me, as apparantly she's really timid and jumps and runs into her garden whenever anyone gets near her lol. But she came up to me and even came in the house with me and rolled on her back in front of me. Lovely cat. God I love cats, they're perfect, seriously!
Title: Re: Rage's cat thread.
Post by: renaeden on January 14, 2011, 10:20:07 PM
Rolling on her back shows that she trusts you. :)

My mum has two cats. Dennis who is half Siamese and 14 years old, and Mollie who is about 6. When I had my own place, I took in this cat who appeared stray. Then I realised she was pregnant. She had her kittens on my bed and Mollie was one of those kittens.

I ended up taking the mother and her kittens (except Mollie, who mum decided to keep) to the cat haven as I was at the time mentally unstable and having to move in with my parents. I wish I didn't have to do that but I am pretty sure all the cats would have gotten homes as they looked to be half Siamese and very cute.

I can't believe Sylvester still hasn't found a home! I was with him today. He is the most hilarious and loving cat! Although he has to go to a single cat home as he doesn't like any other cat but his daughter, who has been adopted already. Chloe and Leroy both found homes. I have to say I was more upset about  not seeing Chloe again than I realized. She was such a special girl. We really bonded.

I seriously love it! My son is aspie as well and I homeschool him. I wanted to find a volunteer job for him because community service has always been important to me. We're both obsessed with cats so we got a job working with a rescue agency. We go once a week for a few hours. Socialize them, clean cages, scoop litterboxes, play with them, snuggle them. Soooo therapeutic.

If you have ever wondered why cats rub up against you, sleep on your head, or exhibit other somewhat odd behaviors, read on.

1. Why do cats sit on our heads while we sleep?
It’s to suck out our brainwaves so that we will obey them. In reality, we lose most of our body heat through our heads. I believe it’s about 60 percent. So our heads are like warm pillows to cats.

2. Why do cats smell our breath?
It’s to see if we are eating better than they are. Cats can learn a lot about us by smelling our breath. They are imprinting our scent into their brains.

3. Why do cats stick their butts in our faces?
It’s to let us know the consequences of what we feed them. Just think about it—dogs and cats sniff each others’ butts. It’s a form of communicating that isn’t gross to them.

4. Why do cats bat their food out of their dishes? They enjoy watching us stumble about the kitchen in our bare feet when we step on the dry crunchy bits. Scientists will tell us that it’s because cats need to simulate the capture and conquering of their prey.

5. Why do cats run around the house late at night? It’s their way of saying “See I exercised, now leave me alone so I can take a nap.” Racing around the house often starts in the early evening, and can go on all hours of the night till morning. It stems from instinct, when all kinds of cats–from lions to pumas to house cats–are on the hunt. They run, dive, and chase prey. Yes, I know there is no prey in your house, but it’s their instinct.

6. Why do cats knead on our chest with their claws? They are actually tiny little alien scientists trying to check our tolerance to pain. This up and down kneading action stems from nursing. Kittens press against their mother with one paw and then the other. When adult cats knead, it reminds her of her mother when she was a kitten.

7. Why Do Cats Rub Up Against Your Legs?
They think we are big lint brushes. This is a way of sharing their scent with you. It’s a bonding experience that lets other cats know that you are owned by a cat!

8. Why do cats groom us?
It’s not grooming; it’s tasting. So for your own safety, buy the better cat food. Cats that get along often groom each other as well as groom themselves. So they extend the courtesy to us. And my husband always says, “I’m part cat.”

Honestly, I will have to preview these (horrid parent that I am) and show them to my thirteen year old daughter.

She Loves cats, but our cat HATES her. (I am the cat's person and no one else can approach her) Our cat hisses and claws her (she seems to enjoy being scratched by the cat and promotes further abuse and forces the cat to growl at her) and will not tolerate any touch from my daughter. My daughter still goes for it. Scratching and growling = fine.

I think that my daughter will love to see these.

Cats are the fucking best. Anyone who has cats it cool too.  :green:

 :agreed:

I don't understand how anyone doesn't like cats  :thumbdn:

I have an incredibly brilliant cat, but she hates my wife and my daughter.

She loves my son, but he is afraid of her. (he is quite autistic and can not understand that the behavior he witnesses between the cat and his sister could be different between him and the cat, yet.)  Our cat is basically very jealous of other females. She is a girl cat and what a "scaredy little girl"  she is.

While my daughter enjoys the pain of being clawed by the cat (my daughter toils the poor cat constantly, likes to hear her growl and hiss, does not mind having her arms shredded - in fact my daughter loves it when the cat gets really physical - my wife does not understand this ... ), my older son would not tolerate it and he is scared of being clawed and generally despises conflict in any manner.  (I was just like him when I was young, before my temper first flared up.)

My sweet cat has never presented her claws to me at all. She keeps my nose licked, and makes sure that I stay clean - WHO knew that social grooming was important to cats?  Well I did, but I think she is setting me up to be her mate at some point.

She does not stand a chance, however. If called upon to make a choice, my awesome wife will kick this beautiful cat's ass out the door and be done with a hissy pissy bitch cat from hell terrorizing her life forever. Just the way it is.

I love my cat! I hope I never have to choose.

Here is a pic ...

Nice cat, DD, she does not look like a lady to trifle with.

I lived with a housemate with a cat who could not stand males. He loved his lady, and would be with her all the time, when she was home, unless she brought male companions. Then he would flee to me.
Something strange happened when I started dating my ex though. Whenever my BF was around, the cat would leave her, and get all over my BF.

I have loved and lost so many cats in my life.

I have seen my darlings eaten right in front of me while I was getting my rifle, revolver or shotgun ready to kill the pack of dogs (which I also love - do not mistake me here) with an appetite.

I used to live in the west Texas desert and I have always kept cats and dogs, but  my animals always got along.  It was the wild pack roaming dogs I had to worry about. Those wild dogs even killed my own dogs as well. That is why I shot every one of those wild bastards that came onto my land.

Too many horrors to share in one post, but this cat is my favorite.

It is NOT just that she is the most recent pet, but more that she is the most loving.

She "softpaws" me all the time and when she wants to hear me talk (my wife "accuses" me of using my Barry White voice for the cat  --  LOL) she bats my mouth. I touch her "cheek"  and she touches my cheek, softpaw, no claws.

I also become annoyed with her, because she thinks that all I have to do is attend to her.

I remember seeing a stupid posty  pic of a very sad cat's face and I am paraphrasing the caption:

You have your friends.  You have your games. You have your TV. You have your work. You have your meals and beer and even more friends.
I only have YOU!

 :violin:

THAT is how she thinks.
Gotta love cats!

She also "stalks"  everything, even a crumb of bread or some shit left on the floor.  She spots a crumb and approaches with all her hackles up her tail all bushed out, her claws ready to  attack, her eyes WIDE open.  Then she claws it and jumps back about five feet and starts again.

 :asthing:

I wonder; is she just drunk or is she as autistic as I am?

Honestly, I will have to preview these (horrid parent that I am) and show them to my thirteen year old daughter.

She Loves cats, but our cat HATES her. (I am the cat's person and no one else can approach her) Our cat hisses and claws her (she seems to enjoy being scratched by the cat and promotes further abuse and forces the cat to growl at her) and will not tolerate any touch from my daughter. My daughter still goes for it. Scratching and growling = fine.

I think that my daughter will love to see these.

To those who find them:

Post more!!

Poco was kind of like that, but she didn't like anyone but me touching her, AND she didn't like it when I paid attention to anyone or anything but her. It was funny, because sometimes she got really pissed off about it.

Funny.

I have a male black version of her in my household, I think. Though a bit more mellow. Easily scared, I blame that on him having been a street cat for a long time, and owning me. I am his possession, and I need to be there for him all the time. During the night, he becomes my bed companion. In summer, he'll keep some distance, when it is colder, he'll wriggle his nose in my neck and work his way under the covers and then turns around to get his head on the pillow. When it is really cold, he sleeps closely tucked in to me. When it is just cool, it is as in the picture. He's not soft paws only though. If he really wants my attention, he will not hesitate to place a nail in some soft flesh of mine.

He's a bit milder, in the sense that he likes older people, he likes my oldest daughter. And, the past few weeks he seems to tolerate my youngest too. Maybe even starts liking her a tiny bit. That's new, and the girl is delighted.

Yeah. I agree.

 My cat would totally FREAK!

There have been two people who have brought their pets to our house in my cat's life.  They both were dogs. They both left with blood streaking down their noses from trying to exchange friendly sniffs with my cat.
 :dunno:

She seems to always be afraid and yet she takes care of herself.

Ahh, my late cat Pius, he seemed to have no fear at all. And he was the gentlest cat one can imagine. But he became extremely defensive and aggressive when my oldest was born. He fought with every cat and dog coming near to our lot. I've seen the vet half a dozen times in just a few months.
He was her warrior and companion. She learned to stand, partly on him, he didn't care. Anything to keep her safe and happy.

Emerson is a beautiful boy who was mistreated by his bitch owner because he "annoyed" her. She twisted his neck and snapped it and paralyzed him. He was unable to walk but luckily the bitch surrendered him to a shelter instead of letting him starve to death.

He has to wear a diaper because he cannot use a litter box.

http://www.viralnova.com/emerson-kitty/

Emerson gets a new wheelchair to move around in and is a mascot for his shelter.

http://www.lifewithcats.tv/2015/03/22/emersons-story-abused-special-needs-cat-gets-wheelchair-and-new-life/

His adorable head is permanently tilted to the side because of that woman.

My cat.

Is she not beautiful?!?
She is literally the most affectionate and loving animal (lover?) I have ever known.

(Yes, my wife reads my posts and she already knows I hold this opinion.)

My "baby" (her name is Nina, but even though she is getting old these days, she is still my baby) meets me at the door when I return home, like a lonely puppy would, she spends most of my days off from work right next to me. Sometimes she wants to play "kissy face," though. I can only take a small bit of that, but she would do it for hours, I expect.

Every morning, about one minute before my alarm rings, she hops up on the bed and starts "headbutting me" to get me awake. She generally goes to sleep with me, but then does "cat things" through the night once I am asleep. She almost never fails to hit me with her forehead, lovingly, just before the alarm goes off.

Not sure how she tells time so well, but she does and she is not the first cat I have had who shows similar behavior.

Me Loves Me Cat!!

He looks like the black, grey and white feral cat we've adopted.  Not sure if it's male or female, but it has been fixed (notched ear).  Very skittish and bullied by the other cats.  I don't know it I'll ever be able to pet PittySing (Pretty Thing), but I am letting her make the moves.

That's a good thing she has been fixed. They have some sort of method like that with stray cats here. Capture them, sterilise them, then release them.

Liam also has a notch in his ear but that is from when he was a tom and got into cat fights before we knew of him.

Follow-up to my Oct 8 post on my feral cat.  Well, it's a he, not fixed, still skittish - will approach me, but jumps away if I "accidentally" touch him.  He's now called Pete instead of Pretty Thing.

I'll look into having him neutered, but  I don't want to spook him away by trying to trap him. Our female cat is 13 and has been fixed.  Not sure if there are any other female cats in the neighborhood.

Brought one indoors yesterday. Once he has something more than skin on his bones, he'll be neutered too. He's catching up on feeding and sleeping right now. And occasionally takes some time to do some very needed grooming. Not going to bathe that critter, that would spook him completely.

My cat loves cold water as much as I do.

Every time I get a glass of ice water, which is several times par day, my cat always begs for her own ice cube to be placed in her water dish. I comply.
It's the least I can do.

Lorre is weird.

Whenever I walk to or from the kitchen he'll race after me to overhaul me, almost making me trip over him. So far nothing new. Sirius and Pius did that too. But Lorre has a bonus in his moves. Somehow he manages to make the overhauling move in such a way that one of his paws gets stuck between my toes. Happens almost daily. When this happens he makes a sound like a pissed off duck, sets his paw free and races of again.

It's so funny, and he does not seem to learn. Silly critter.

He'll be happy when it gets colder and I start wearing woolen socks again.

Sugarbutt showed me the video and I said it's because they're being sneaky and putting it there when the cat's not looking and it could have been apples or anything else, but he said some of them smelled it first before jumping so it might be something about the smell of cucumbers.  :dunno:

Sugarbutt used to grow it fresh back when there was a cat around here. He kept in a hanging basket though so it wouldn't attract the neighbors cats. The cat only got some occasionally, because if it was offered too often he would lose interest. He didn't care about catnip toys, but that might be just because he had no interest in toys. I never tried giving him dried catnip that wasn't in a toy.  :dunno:

Took Liam to the vet yesterday for his "geriatric" check-up. He's 12.

They took blood from him but couldn't get urine. So I got it last night. He pees like a tom so it wasn't that hard. I just had to encourage him out of the litter tray (it's covered) while he was peeing and put a bowl the vet gave me behind him. Unfortunately it meant he peed all over the side of the washing machine and the tiled floor.

I got a good amount though, and poured it into a sample container. Will drop it off at the vet today.

The vet tested Liam's blood sugar while we were there and he doesn't have diabetes, thankfully.

Does anyone here have cats that purposely try to destroy your stuff if they don't get their way? Both Liam and Kira start getting into my stuff in my room if they want attention or feeding.

Mum once shut her cat out of her bedroom on purpose and he got her back by jumping on the side table in the hallway and knocking a few ornaments to the floor where they smashed. Mum was not happy.

Not destroy, but mine steals things (and hides them) I had in my hands when she expects attention. She will sometimes come back and hide my remote. I have watched her so this.

She also will not allow me to read a book or a magazine. She climbs up and claws it out of my hands. Now of course, I could defeat her attempts, but I think it is cute.

Ah, I know what that's like. Kira doesn't like me to be on the Kindle or phone sometimes. He will try to smooch it out of my hands or otherwise make his presence known so much that it's hard to concentrate on reading or typing.

In other news, all of Liam's test results came back and he is declared a healthy cat.

When we were with the vet, she noticed that his patches are not black, but brown. I had always thought he was a white and black cat but when comparing Liam to Kira, Liam is indeed white and brown. The vet said it's kind of rare to see that and that there's probably some Burmese in him somewhere.

My baby is getting old these days. I worry about her. She has lost weight. She is still active and very aggressive when it is time for her to have attention from me. I am her person; I am the one human with which she identifies closely.

She is fifteen years old. I got her when she was five weeks old. She has been a tremendously faithful friend through out her whole life and still holds to that. She is the most loving cat I have ever had. I have had many cats! She rates as top One!

Interesting thing ... she never wanted anything to eat but nice (expensive) fish food for most of her life. We kept dried fish style cat food out for her constantly, upon which she nibbled and I fed her fancy canned fishy food twice per day. I have never given her any water except for the same RO purified water that we all drink.

She was about twelve years of age when we rescued a dog from the Humane Society. It was her first experience with a co-habitant. She became curious as to how and why the dog got to eat "people food"  left overs from our plates after meals.

She actually bullied the dog away from his food bowl one day to "try"  these leftovers. That was three years ago. Now she eats beef, fish, pork, chicken or anything that we eat, containing protein.
I have discovered that she goes nuts for popcorn. We started a Marvel marathon the other day and sat down with popcorn. She DEMANDED that I share with her.
It was so damn cute. I could barely believe what I was seeing. I had one piece of popcorn in my hand.
Obviously, I was not going to just throw a piece of popcorn onto our new carpet so I allowed her to smell it, fully expecting her to turn away. BUT, she sat up on her haunches to grab it with her paws. Freaking gobbled it down and sat up again reaching out with her paws toward me for more popcorn.

This has now become a "Thing."  If she really wants what I am eating, she sits up on her back legs and reaches for my leg and "knocks,"  kitty style.

It is just too damn cute for words.

Yesterday, I was eating some fresh salsa I made with garden things and some store bought when I dropped a chip onto the floor and she attacked it like a predator on the hunt. Not a second later I hear crunching. She ATE IT! A fucking corn chip! Then came back for more.

As the doctors might say, this could represent a serious problem with her diet, but she still eats all her regular food. I do not see this becoming a constant thing, just a really cute anomaly.

Love that. My current kitty is very afraid of strangers. Runs and hides, than spends the rest of the day all snuggly and purry, hardly leaves my side.

We used to have a very cute "watchcat" but he is long gone. He was de-clawed when we got him, but he would stand up to strangers and claw at them with no claws. He still managed to hunt well with no front claws. Once he caught and ate a rabbit almost as big as he was and was stuck under our porch, too big in the belly to get back out the same hole he followed the rabbit into.
I had to dig the hole out for him once I finally figured out where he was and then discovered the rest of the tale.

Going to talk about Liam. Lately he's lost some weight. He is a cat that doesn't need to lose weight. He's now lighter than Kira who is smaller. He also sleeps a lot. I know he's getting old but I'm not sure exactly how old he is.

I spoke to my mum about him, wondering if we should take Liam to the vet. She asked is he happy? He seems so, he plays with Kira every now and then. Is he eating and drinking? Yes.

Mum advised not to take him to the vet just yet. They may make him miserable with tests and procedures. They may say we have to give him medication which is really difficult with Liam.

Just thinking about losing Liam almost brings me to tears. And I'm not the crying sort.

Since my previous post Liam has gotten worse so we did take him to the vet. The vet looked at Liam's gums and I was horrified. Obvious jaundice.

So they're going to do an ultrasound on his belly today and we should get results this afternoon.

Liam was put down this afternoon. The ultrasound showed he had tumours in and around his liver. Inoperable. So we went back in to say goodbye. He had two injections - one to put him to sleep and the other to stop his heart. It didn't feel real to see that. I closed his eyes.

Kayleigh will be organising his cremation and what happens to his ashes. I'm glad because I don't think I could.

I still think he'll come into my room and jump on my bed. Or come and find me to let him outside or give him some dry food.

Has anyone heard of audiogenic reflex seizures in cats?

Liam had this. One day Kayleigh was dragging her fingernails down a comb and noticed that Liam had the strangest reaction - he would gag with his tongue out. Back then there wasn't any information on the net about it. Now there's plenty.

This link has a few videos of the phenomenon.

Mollie and Rumble have sniffed each other, Mollie doesn't care, Rumble hissed.

Kira and Rumble are a bit more complicated. But they have progressed to washing the top of each other's heads. Kira, being the scaredy cat he is, spends most of his time under my bed ever since Rumble has been here. He's gradually making more effort to come out though.

Rumble has a really long tail - to the point that he's chased it. I really love his markings.

Now that I've had DSH Black that's the one that hit the spot for looks.

You'd love Kira then, he's all black. I feel we're lucky to have him, he came to us as a stray kitten and he looked grey.

I've had a Siamese cat before, he was a blue point. His name was Oman (named by my sister) and he was very loyal to me. He even slept under the blankets with me. Unfortunately, when I was living with my sister, I went to hospital to have my appendix out and Oman ran away, I think to look for me. I don't know what happened to him but I hope he found new owners. He'd be long dead of old age by now, at least I hope that he lived to old age too.

We had a bit of an emergency on Thursday night. Rowan ate his dinner as normal. Shortly after I went to bed, he threw up 5 times in the space of an hour. Something was irritating his stomach. Kayleigh was very concerned and woke me up so I could drive us to the emergency vet. It was a 45 minute drive and Rowan was miserable the whole way. He didn't even meow and he's otherwise a very vocal cat.

The vet could see that Rowan was ill. She felt his stomach and he cried out. When she took his temperature, it was over 40°C.  She was very concerned about that. She then took Rowan to another room for a basic scan and some blood tests. The results were fine but because of his temperature and stomach soreness, we (Kayleigh and I) decided to leave Rowan overnight so he could have more thorough tests and a detailed ultrasound the next day (the same day really, it was 2am.

Later that morning I cancelled my volunteering at the Salvos because I didn't know if or when we could pick Rowan up. The vet rang Kayleigh and said he'd thrown up once more but his temperature was going down. The ultrasound found that some lymph nodes were enlarged but nothing else. The vet wanted us to leave Rowan there all day so that they could be sure his temperature would continue to drop.

I ended up going to work until 6:30pm and after I got home Kayleigh rang the vet once more. She said that Rowan had eaten and kept it down which was a really good sign. His temperature was also normal. So we went to collect him.

We were in the waiting room when a vet nurse brought Rowan out in his carrier. He had his back to us but as soon as he heard Kayleigh's voice he turned around and meowed. The vet told us that Rowan had not been amused by his stay in hospital. I'm not surprised - both front legs, throat and stomach had been shaved. He'd been on intravenous fluids the whole time which was probably uncomfortable.

And well, $1600 later, he's fine. He has pain medication and anti-nausea medication. Not long after he was home, he ate dinner and was playing again.

Thank you. He seems fine now.

We have a new cat problem. Mollie is nearly 16 and she's gone downhill in the last month or so. She can't walk very well and can no longer jump on my bed or any of the chairs. She does this strange very loud meow that I don't know the meaning of. Like if she's in pain or uncomfortable or she wants attention. She's also not eating as much as she used to. And food has always meant a lot to Mollie.

I don't think it will be long before she crosses the rainbow bridge.

She's gone.

We had a lovely Scottish vet who also knew Liam. He said Mollie's condition was most likely neurological given that she'd "stargaze" - look upwards a lot and fall over. She'd also lost a lot of muscle in her back legs and her front legs were weak. We could have had tests done to pinpoint what was wrong but we were told the outcome would be the same. So we said goodbye to the real Grumpy Cat.

Mollie was always the one to remind Kayleigh that she had to feed the cats. Food was her thing right up until we took her to the vet.

Nellie and I put Martha to sleep last week. I held her and Nellie patted her. We're doing well, although I still look for her and occasionally think I hear her soft meows.

You had Martha for a long time? I think you said she used to be an outside cat.

I understand how you think that she's still around. I was like that with Liam and Mollie.

We had her for a little over 18 years.  From May 2003 until Fall of 2005 she and her sister, Ashley were indoor cats.  When we returned from Katrina we found both cats had been left outside (if they'd been inside I think they would have died.)  Prince Albert wouldn't let them back in since they'd been outside for over 3 weeks. When he died in Sept 2016 I brought Martha inside (Ashley had died).  So she was indoors for about 8 years and outside for 10.

After things have settled down with this and that I may look into fostering.

Slowly we've gotten the message that Rowan doesn't like being picked up. Last time I did, he was on the edge of growling. So for the past week I haven't picked him up. It's a shame because he's so adorable and soft. Kayleigh has left him alone as well. Yesterday Kayleigh was playing a computer game when Rowan jumped on her lap and started purring. This is not like him. We're hoping that he's going to be more affectionate since we've given up holding him.

Jellybean isn't a fan of being picked up either but he just gives you that annoyed look when you do it

To get my fix of holding Rowan, I lift him to the bench where his food is and hold him for about 5 seconds.

He's taken to sleeping on my bed a lot and I  having him there because I can pet him.

Jellybean likes to sit with and on me all the time but he has to choose when and where,  pick him up and he's guaranteed to try and get away as soon as he can.

Both our cats aren't lap cats unfortunately. I'd love them to be, though.

When we were at the vet last, I voiced my concern about Rowan's lack of drinking. The vet said he looked far from dehydrated and that cats were very good at getting their fluids from their food.

So I've continued to worry despite that. But last week I filled up a bowl with water to put stamps on paper in (it separates the stamps from the paper) and Rowan jumped up onto the table and started lapping at the water. This was the third time I'd seen him drink in the two years we've had him. Then yesterday I saw him drink out of the cat water fountain. Maybe he's getting thirsty because the weather is warm? Anyway, I'm glad to see it.

Both cats went to the vet again on the 16th February. They're both fine, their weight is steady. Kira got a microchip.

There's been a stray cat coming into our backyard every night for about a week. They're a tuxedo cat which is lovely but they're very thin. We don't know if they're a boy or a girl yet. Last night, Kayleigh put out some food and water for the cat. The food was all eaten by this morning. I don't really want another cat but I hate to see one starving.

We got GPS trackers for our two cats because we were wondering where Kira went when he spent nights away from home. We found out he was going next door, then over their fence into the rear property. But after that we've found that he barely goes anywhere. Rowan, on the other hand, crosses the street out the front and goes to the next street after jumping the fence.

I let them out at around 6:30am and I guess that's when all the wandering happens.

I understand that GPS trackers are more common to use for dogs. My parents once had a dog who would escape at any opportunity and usually the ranger would pick him up. He used to do this despite being walked twice a day and being played with in the backyard. The GPS tracker would have been useful for their dog.

No more outdoor cats for me.  A GPS would have been good when had outdoor cats as I always wondered where they went sometimes for a couple of days.

In a bigger house I'd keep the cats in but our house is tiny. We play with the cats but it's hard to wear them out.

How many cats do you have apart from Jellybean?
