Title: Disabled people and prostitution
Post by: thepeaguy on March 30, 2008, 01:41:10 PM
http://disabilitylibdems.org.uk/news/000574/is_it_ok_for_disabled_people_to_go_to_brothels.html

Should disabled people be entitled to prostitution? I do.

There's nothing inherently wrong with being a prostitute, and it would do wonders for those who feel left out in a society saturated with sex. We all have sexual needs to fulfill.

I remember posting something about this on zomg last year; there was an article about it on the BBC site, if I remember correctly.

I think they should do anyway. Plus, it would be much safer if legalised and regulated.

I wouldn't want a prostitute myself, but as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, and it's organised properly, I don't see the problem. Maybe that's just me though.

There is a massage parlour just down the road from me; they charge £40 for half an hour.
I think it will be some hound or crack-whore;so I would rather just wank off to a DVD.
I would go if I could see what the choice was in advance and she looked like she was a nice person.

Prostitution should be totally legal and the prostitutes given respect and safety.  No cop-outs either; like decriminalisation. I think the reason that it's illegal is some throwback from double standards some people still hold about some women existing just to be used and it being ok to consider them subhuman, while others have to be pure and worthy.

To me it's no different from going to a lapdancing club and that's much more acceptable now. Ok, there is the possibility of diseases but in a relationship thats more about boundries and trust anyway.

Both men and women are at fault of things being the screwed up way they are now because it's so covenient for them. That bloke in the wheelchair was very brave for coming out and saying it on telly etc. because nobody would have batted an eyelid if he had just went and got laid in secret.

I have some personal moral issues with
prostitution, but don't think that it should
be particularly discriminated against, as a profession.

All the same, like many other professions, there are
some serious effects - many psychological. Any regulation
of prostitution should probably take this into account, and
make certain that adequate counseling is available. I've seen
the same effects on strippers though, and would advocate that
they too have such resources made available.

Anybody should be able to go to one.  I think it should be a business and regulated as such as long as everyone's an adult

Shouldn't children be able to use one,
with their parents' permission?

Maybe only in the safety of the
home, kinda like alcohol.

Never tried it myself, but I don't have any problems with the concept, and I think there's a whole community of fetishists who seek it out.

my word, parts - that's, er, interesting.  saves worrying about all that awkward business with where your legs go, though.

i can't see any reason why people with diabilities shouldn't visit prostitutes.  i haven't replied before as it's a no-brainer, surely?   :-\

If the disabled person is not right in mind to make that decision, than they should be allowed to do prostitution, for their own protection.  They may get into trouble from being neive and such. This is somthing like decisions don't come adequately in a bad mood.  They need to be explained all the risks, and made sure they know exactly what they are getting into.  Sometimes people think they do, and they get more than they bargined for.  There is a scientific law of some sorts, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

Animals, less so.

I couldn't,  unless I knew them and fell for them complete.

A three legged pig, on the other hand....

What if the prostitute does not want business with disabled people because of the disability?

Wow. Disability suit?

Ouch. But, it's the obvious conclusion.

Well it's nowhere near like a normal job, I wouldn't want the jobcentre pushing it on doleys.

Lol, Jeremy Kyle shows would have to change their titles "Hooker at 14......Hurrah for her!" and him shouting "GET A JOB" would have whole new meaning. :zoinks:

I live within walking distance of FGU and Flying Buffalo,
two companies that I thought were long gone. My goal
is to hit at least one of their shops, this weekend.

Actually, I've never 'hooked up' at either kind of
con. Can't really imagine doing so. Ah, flirted a
bit, in a LARP or two, but most gaming cons see
me with a bunch of other old men.  :zoinks:

Sweetness.

Wish I could hook you up with an ex of mine. You and he would probably lose yourself for days on end in strategy game and world history debates. If you didn't throttle each other first - he's just a wee bit narcissist too.

The pros? He's young. The cons? He's on the other side of the country.  :P

Young doesn't matter much (except in terms of likely
to have time). Sounds interesting. Still, I'm actually trying
to hook up with gamers here.

I need to settle somewhere, and this ain't too bad.
