Military forces around the world seem to have a knack for bringing out the asshole in people.  I hope it's fake, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's real.

:agreed:

If it is real we can always hope on an insurgent attack

It's not like it's a plant or something.

Oh come on, it's only a puppy.
It's not like it's a plant or something.

i thought it was funny :plus:
While I did laugh, it is still wrong to throw a puppy off a cliff.  A plant, how about a cat or a flightless bird lol.  It would be worse if it was a baby and that is about it.   I still would have laughed if they were throwing a baby off a cliff too unfortunately.  I laugh at inappropriate things all the time.   The footage of the people bashing the monkey's skull in and eating its brains gets me to laugh usually (Traces of Death).   Same goes for people beating baby seals to death, that makes me laugh as well.

I suppose. Just not very much so.

The cat would make sense - in order to see how it landed.
The bird, well hell, what's the point of a flightless bird.

Absolute disagreement. Human spawnlings are vile.

Have you ever tasted human baby flesh?   It could be as tender as veal and you wouldn't know any better.   Waste of some good baby cutlets if you ask me, I doubt puppy meat would be nearly as tender.

You should avoid hospitals and funerals.

Funerals wouldn't make me laugh because there is no person being killed there.  The person is already dead.  Hospitals I don't want to go near because they are fucking nasty and full of people.   I managed to not laugh at the people at the old folks home I volunteered at.   I helped people with Alzheimers play trivia lol.

its not, babies are much tastier.
See that is what I would think.   Calandale seems to think they are vile.   I think throwing one off a cliff is a waste of good meat compared to a puppy.

Babies taste like shit.
How did you prepare them?  I read they can be delicious if prepared correctly.

You just have to get it to the temperature where all the bacteria is killed.

Bacteria tends to be tougher than babies, no?

Of course.  Tougher than chicken and all other rare meats.   That is the downside to eating something totally raw.   Though you might build up immunity after a while from eating so much raw meat.

Many of our soldiers over there are going through situations you or I NEVER could imagine, ever.  We train these very young men and women to kill, supress all their emotions over it, and put them in an environment that is beyond description.  Many are back for their 3rd or 4th deployment in 5 years.  Why is anyone suprised at that video.  Does everyone think that PTSD only happens after you get home, and only causes people to get unusally irratated over bad traffic.  Or that its controllable?

I guess the lesson is that if you are going to throw something off a cliff, make it an ugly animal.

oh, boo hoo.  so, i signed up and received training to be a teacher, and then they actually expected me to STAND IN FRONT OF A GANG OF CHILDREN AND TEACH THEM!!!  outrageous!  i should be able to throw puppies off cliffs with impunity.

ffs, they signed up to be in the army, wtf did they expect?  embroidery and a little bit of gentle gardening?

of course i support the fact that the military have human rights too, and deserve care and support the same as everyone else, but honestly - if you choose a career which involves killing people, take responsibility for that choice.  it doesn't give you the right to act like a cunt.

My niece did ROTC though and even though she got her masters in education they had he become a combat medic, airborne at that.  She spent three years in Iraq and saw more people die than she can remember but would never do anything like this.  She now teachers school in Oregon I would not recommend anybody every fucking with her though.

I am AMAZED that people are so ready to embrace the thought that killing people is ok, but small animals are off limits...

I think it should depend upon the animal.
I'd say dogs and cats are definitely ok
to kill, but indigenous animals should be
protected more, especially endangered ones.

*shrug* It's all evolution. Who gets to say what species is more valuable than another?
Title: Re: Our military, at play
Post by: Calandale on April 19, 2008, 08:20:30 PM
It's not that simple. There IS some value to diversity,
in terms of the overall survival of life.

Of course, I should be arguing for wiping out
all the other species.

Hey, I never said that diversity had no value. It does, because of precisely what you said - too little diversity leads to stagnation and extinction.

I was just pointing out that all emotional value-judgments are equally wrong (or equally right) since some people who posted seemed to be under the delusion that there is scientific basis behind whether it's better to kill something cute or not, or something like oneself or not.

They're two separate issues, requiring two separate means of analysis, and attempting to cross them only leads to misunderstanding.

But, there is. We have an investment in the survival of our
own species, as well as in that of cute things. One which IS
scientifically observable.

Yes, but people make it out to be a far more important factor than it actually is.

Cuteness? I dunno. I'd be just as upset
to find out that he stole a couple 100k
I think. But, that would be more understandable.
The issue here is being faced with a human,
supposedly like ourselves, gratuitously killing
something that many find attractive. And
recoiling, because that is NOT what we see
ourselves as likely to do.
