I heard, over on WP, some rather harsh analysis about this site and it's citizens. I felt a need to break myself off some of that ;-)
A short auto-synopsis:
I went to the psychologist recently for confirmation of my suspicions. I prepared myself for a difficult time, figuring we might have to wrestle a bit over the exact diagnosis. Apparently, the psychologist had no trouble at all. I guess my symptoms weren't as subtle as I had always thought ;- )
I have a job at help desk that makes me feel hopeless and sad. I take photos, which makes me hopeful and happy. Go ahead and guess which one I get paid for.
I like Truth, and hate Drama. I can be rather short tempered when confronted with willing ignorance. I've been online long enough to have seen every kind of asshole - and in multiple formats. I no longer find them entertaining, nor even very irritating. Sometimes, if I have the time and energy, I'll give them some good advice. Usually, I'll frown a bit, type a line or two, delete them, close the window, and go back to downloading esoteric bits of "art" from usenet groups.
On the other hand, anyone reasonable is always welcome to say whatever they like to me.

Hey gitchel. I like your style of experimental photography. Welcome to intensity.
-
welcome.
-
Hope you have fun here. Feel free to shake things up.
-
welcome to intensity, land of the free and home of the tasteless. you might like it here. you might not. welcome anyway. we have a couple of photographers here, some of them even post pics other than their genitals.
-
Hello.
I like your sig thing. Sophia is it ?
-
Welcome abord :)
PS: its not too good an idea to have personal details to that extent in your sig, just a friendly warning ;)
-

Welcome, and God's right, you might not want to give out that many personal details in your sig.
-
Thank you for the Welcome! I really appreciate it.
You're absolutely right about not sharing too much personal info. However, there's nothing left that I haven't already sacrificed to the Google Monster more than a decade ago. Not much point to being cagey at this point. ;-)
Soon enough, none of will have a private life.
BTW, did you know that sitting in a parking lot, typing on an iPod, will give you carpal finger?!
Ouch.
Later :-)

Hi Gitchel. I remember typing a reply in this thread, but I don't know what happened to it.
Anyway, welcome to Intensity².
I looked at some of your pictures and I liked everything that I saw.
I was curious about what you heard about us, whether it was Alex's eloquent, "That site sucks," or whether it was something from our Intensity² Recruitment Chairman, "... a barely-legal, completely unethical, den of iniquity that exists mainly for the amusement of a socially-able aspergic elite," or something else. We have those two on our front page.
-
Welcome to Intensity! ;D

:welcome: to Intensity gitchel.
I had a look at your site, am impressed.

Wow, thanks for even more Welcomes! :-)
I saw a few references to this site on WP. Mostly, they were fairly lame attempts to insert it into the Evil Site thread. But I was intrigued by the attempt. I tend to be curious whenever someone says there's something I shouldn't see ;-)
Thanks for the compliments in reference to my photos. It's my current preoccupation. I'm very curious about other aspie photographers, and heard there may be some here. I'm looking for a common thread(s) in the photography of autistics. Thinking of putting together a website, show, book, calendar, whatever. Mostly looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of how aspies/autistics approach Art.
-
aspies can be very artistic. many are. i used to take photos but i'm not into it anymore. i used to paint and draw and write poems too. but i can't be assed anymore.

That's very interesting.
Your photos are excellent. Some are mesmerising.
Your camera is a Nikon?

Your camera is a Nikon?
Nikon D50. Had to pull some serious overtime to afford it. It is a real workhorse, and I recommend it.
Before that, I used a Canon A95 - a very good camera for someone just learning.
In most of my photos, I try to find a new perspective. I'm sure that's what most NT photographers do, of course, but I approach it differently. Instead of focusing on finding unusual angles or juxtapositions, I cheat and stop trying to think like an NT for a moment. What fascinates my aspie self the most about what I'm looking at?
The picture in my avatar is simply the balconies on the new apartment building across the street reflected in the broken glass of an abandoned auto parts store. It seems to say things about time and entropy and how one provides motion for the other. Or something about shinny broken things - I forget which. ;-)
At least I HOPE that's what I'm doing ;-) I find it deeply satisfying for myself. I have no idea if NTs, or other aspies find that it communicates anything to them.
We'll see, I guess.

So, you're the photographic equivalent of a guy who cuts cows in half and pickles them, or who throws buckets of paint at a wall?
-
-
I love Nikons mine got damaged by someone else taking a photo and I haven't replaced it with the insurance yet.
I bought a Canon once - for use as an underwater camera. Never really liked it.

Have you seen the photo's on his website Peter?
-
So, you're the photographic equivalent of a guy who cuts cows in half and pickles them, or who throws buckets of paint at a wall?
Nope. I'm the guy who takes pictures of the wall after someone throws buckets of pickled cow at it.
Actually, now that I think about it, do you happen to have access to a cow, Peter? A black and white one, preferably. For the contrast, you see.
Or, failing that, how much do you happen to weigh?
Jeff
(Aspie Disclaimer: The above was meant to be at least slightly humorous. I'm sure Peter would not be amenable to bisection. Nor do I have the energy for that much sawing.)

How long were you over at WP?

How long were you over at WP?
About 3 months. I didn't post much.

i assume you weren't a heavy participant in the interminable 'diagnose the dead famous person with AS' and 'my toes wrinkle in the bath! is this a sign of autism?' threads over there, then. :evillaugh:

Evil site thread? Gotta link?
Somehow, I'd presume that ANY links
to the land of the ass fairies would disappear,
right quick.

Mine don't. Maybe I'm not aspie. :P

It's mostly highland cows here, and horses, and some deer. You could use a big circular saw; I bet I'd make a pretty bisection.
Are you on the no-fly list yet for those anti-war photos?
-
Are you on the no-fly list yet for those anti-war photos?
hehe
Well, technically, the photos aren't anti-war. The march was. The photos are just "news" coverage.
Actually, someone asked me to cover the march - so I did. I have no idea what they did with the pictures afterward. I assume they aren't violating my copyright ;-)
Personally, I get a bit peeved at the new Peaceniks. I was against this war - actually the entire administration - from the very beginning. In fact, I was against them when they were all Nixon's buddies - except for the few Reaganites. Sheesh. Doesn't anyone have a memory anymore? I KNOW they have Google. Couldn't they look these guys up before voting for them? These are the same guys who ALWAYS start wars when they get in power. Always. They don't consider it a sin to kill other folks' kids for cash.
Whatever, Sorry for the rant.
Anyway, I am well and truly aspie. Therefore, I have just a tiny bit of trouble actually asking people to model for pose or model for me. You may have noticed an almost complete lack of non-candid people photos in the 1200+ pictures I posted on Flickr. So, I try to cover the periodic march or parade or event just so I can get a little practice shooting humans. When a person is acting publicly, they can't refuse a photo.
Still, if I were on the no-fly list, it would be a big relief: I hate airlines almost as much as the dentist. Actually, the dentist doesn't torture you for such large blocks of time - nor charge you as much. Hmmm. Ok, I hate air travel WORSE that the dentist - and I REALLY hate the dentist. (Can I hear an "amen!" from the congregation?!)

It was funny. I had to get someone to private message the link to me (Hard to search for "I2"). I had to verify that I was over 18 ;-)
Apologies for the mistake. (I make mistakes often, and like to share them with my friends. Aren't you lucky that I don't knit tea cozies and share THEM with my friends? ;-)
Jeff

Like garmonbozia said, there are plenty of women here who will fire right back.
